All I Wanted Was A Little Traffic

I began this journey to work from home a little over a year ago. I found a few opportunities that were somewhat profitable. I decided that it was time for me to branch out and start my own website so that I could attract more referrals to my core business, which was freebie site trading. That is where my link nightmare began.

Nightmare on Link Street

So...I built my site and was rather proud of it. I thought I did a pretty decent job of describing the different opportunities that I had tried and giving a realistic opinion on how profitable each one could be. It was time to get some traffic to my site.

I first looked at getting an autoresponder. Of course, everyone needs an autoresponder, right? Well, I signed up for a great one that was free. However, you could upgrade and get all of these other cool features. Everyone needs cool features, right? But how to pay for them? No problem. Just refer a few people and you can make more than enough to cover the upgrade cost. And of course, if they refer some people, you can have a matrix up to a zillion layers and make 10 zillion dollars.

So, I now felt compelled to now promote my autoresponder referral link. But where, oh where should I promote it at. Ah, what about a traffic exchange or two or 10?

So... I found a few really great traffic exchanges. All I had to do was to surf a few sites and earn credits that could be used for people surfing my site. Thirty seconds doesn't seem like a long time when you are surfing the web for pleasure but it can be an eternity when you are looking at the same "cash leveraging" promotion. Who has time for that? I needed some credits without spending my life surfing the web. I could buy credits but I am trying to make a little money before I start spending it all. The answer was obivious.

I can earn credits by referring people with my spanking new traffic exchange referral link. And, of course, if they refer a zillion people, I will be rich.

After doing this over and over again, I soon lost focus. I no longer had time to promote or update my main website. I needed to promote all of these other sites that would one day convert to traffic for my main site or make me extremely rich. I even picked up a few other web businesses along the way. Needless to say, they have neither driven traffic to my main site or made me rich.

Well, this weekend I did a little link organizing. I found that I had over 50 referral links to stuff that was not even related to my main business. Once I organized all of these, I made a decision. I must stay focused on my main business (website). I could also choose ONE additional opportunity to promote but that was it. I would also try each of these traffic system individually to see how well they worked as a traffic system. If they didn't work, I would move on.

My nightmare was finally over...I think. But how will I promote my new hub? Focus Vanessa, FOCUS.
