What Is LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a business-oriented networking site mainly used for professional networking. You can register you work experience, training, etc, and connect with your collegues, managers, etc.
I like Linkedin because it's an easy way to manage my CV. On the bonus site, using LinkedIn's recommendation system, anyone that checks out my profile, will be able to see my recommendations, improving my CV value.
One of the things that amazes me about LinkedIn, is that all the big players are registered. I'm connected with all the managers, partners, CEOs, programmers, etc, that I've ever meet before!
It's also very easy to find other people that might be a good connection.

LinkedIn - HR Heaven!
If there's someone that can take the most out of LinkedIn, it's the Human Resources talent hunter. It's hard to find good, hard, competent workers these days, and LinkedIn provides just that: you can easly find people with good experience, good recomendations. The problem is: how to get to them?
What I'm going to describe is a technique that is being wildly used by several Human Resources Head Hunters. Once you found a good candidate, you know the candidate's current company. You can now call the company, asking for a contact, stating that you are a friend of him.
Once you get the contact, you can just call the candidate and try to book an enterview, and try to convince him!
And that's an easy way to reach a higher candidate pool. It isn't the the most honest way, but hey, their loss is your gain!
