Link's Crossbow Training is a first person shooter bundled with the official Wii Zapper Gun.  It is a way to teach video gamers how to use the Wii Zapper Gun and give them a better chance at first person shooting in games that require such an action.  By placing the Wii Remote into the Zapper Gun, it gives the user a more realistic gun-like feel when shooting targets in a video game.  This is the first Legend of Zelda title that utilizes a complete first-person shooter atmosphere.

Link's Crossbow Training focuses on the Twilight Princess video game and has Link progress through a variety of exercises in differing locations.  In order to move forward, Link has to successful take out targets, enemies and collect points to prove his marksmanship.  Link can earn medals, as well as points, that help him unlock the next task with his crossbow.  There are nine levels, each advancing in difficulty and requiring different things of Link's skill.

The nine levels are broken down into three types: Target, Defender and Ranger.  Target levels have Link shoot stationary targets, then advancing to moving targets.  In some instances, Link has to ascertain which targets are viable threats and which are not.  If he hits a friendly target, Link loses points.  Defender levels have Link standing at a particular vantage point and taking on moving targets as they descend on him.  He must fight off a certain number of enemies, such as Stalfos soldiers, while aiming in 360 degrees for a set amount of time.  Ranger levels have Link utilize both the shooting aspect of the Wii Zapper Gun along with the Nunchuk, progressing through an area, clearing it of enemies, collecting Rupees and fighting his way to the end of the stage.

One of the best aspects of the last few console releases of Legend of Zelda has been the progression of control over Link's tools, such as his crossbow and hookshot.  In Ocarina of Time, you really got a feel for how Link used these two weapons in particular so to get to control the crossbow in a first-person shooter arena is a pretty nifty way to play as Link.  Plus, if you are having issues with motion control on the Wii, working your way through Link's Crossbow Training is an excellent way to get over those problems and see actual progress as you get better with point and shoot.

Link's Crossbow Training comes bundled with the Wii Zapper Gun.  You can purchase the software separately, but many places will charge you much more than it actually is to buy the bundle pack.  However, you can find the software on its own at most used video game retailers as well as online.  If you like the feel of holding an actual gun in your hand, make sure to invest in either the Wii Zapper Gun or one of the third party guns on the market to make Link's Crossbow Training even more realistic.
