Follow the steps below to become successful in list building. Marketing list building is a crucial part of growing your business and establishing your presence online. Step 1. Find an Autoresponder service

An autoresponder is an email handling, delivery and scheduling service. You can pay for a commercial autoresponder, host one on yourself, or use a free service. 

The biggest names in autoresponders are Aweber, GetResponse, and Emailaces. I've been looking out for other autoresponders but currently these are the biggest ones I've found. There are a lot of free services out there but most includes annoying advertisements that removes focus on your website. So far the best experience I've had with free autoresponder service is with eMailAces, they're not totally free, they only allow people the free service to get their feet wet, discover how valuable their service is and then upgrade to the paid service. 

The most important thing that you must learn after signing-up for autoresponders is how to create the sign-up forms. Usually all you have to do is to provide some information on how the autoresponder should behave, like what title should be displayed and where should it send your new subscribers after signing-up.

Step 2. Set the sign-up form in your website

If you have your own HTML site, it will be very easy to add the sign-up form because usually it comes in HTML too. Just copy and paste it to your existing HTML pages and just adjust its placement to fit your taste. 

For blogger.com, weebly or any other web 2.0 properties, it's easy since most of these services allows an HTML widgets or components in their site. The only one which requires additional work is Squidoo, but there are also instructions on how to add an opt-in form in squidoo, this may require additional work though. 

Step 3. Promote your site containing the Opt-In Form

After you've included the opt-in form all that's left is to promote like crazy. Advertise your website on all the places available, but don't spam. Spamming is dangerous to your site's health. However, use all channels of advertisement you can to keep your list growing.
