Listening to music and watching TV whilst using speech recognition software.

In fact, it is very possible.  One of the only drawbacks if you can call it a drawback is you won't hear that annoying little beep.

By simple accident, I found another trick to using Dragon software it has its own inbuilt text editor.  Nothing fancy, just a simple text editor.  The beauty is though he works a lot faster than MS Word.  Not sure exactly why, probably because it's an inbuilt function, which obviously leads to less computing time.

I bought Dragon software about two years ago, and for some reason after only a few articles I went back to typing two years on with a much greater need to produce content for my websites and other purposes.  I decided to try one more time, Dragon’s software.

To my amazement it is a very cool software one that requires a little work to make it work for you

In the beginning, the learning curve is a little steep but not insurmountable, for myself.  The short time I used it in the past has been a great help.  Some of the basic commands, you will encounter are actually really simple.  Very logical.

After reading posts by Liz and Mike I decided that it was time for me to start work and rather than give up on the idea of writing for myself I simply needed a change of attitude, one that I have used in many other areas of my life and attitude of how? Rather than why?

Is Dragon’s software perfect no!  Does it get better with time?  Everything I've ever read suggest it does. Imagine writing with no typing this will save you many hours.  I am still in a stage where I am playing with it, trying different ways to make it go faster.  The actual computation time is in credibly fast.  You really do have to see it to believe it.  At present the only thing that is slowing it down is probably myself, it seems like the more normally you speak, the better it understands if you try to speak slowly thinking as you go along it seems to run into more problems than if you just actually speak like you would do with a friend.

Can you imagine all the possibilities of this tool? the next version up from the base software allows you to feed in dictated text prepared elsewhere as an example.  Imagine when you're driving to work and you have that idea! Imagine a  road trip with two hours in the car while driving, you could probably create a number of articles or you could probably create a new article whilst watching TV.

Imagine you turn on the TV then switch to a channel that you're interested in me I like the history Channel while watching the program, you could quite easily create an article on the topic that was being aired.

The only thing I keep running into is hardware.  Not software, hardware the headset supplied by the manufacturer is simple to say the least and was a problem I ran into two years ago, many hours at Best Buy and CompuServe resulted in a few purchases, but nothing worked.  A few minutes reading this morning shows that this problem may be a thing of the past.  Dragon themselves recommend a few high-end headsets, which are also wireless. Now were talking!

Neale, you posted this link as ab answer to my question concerning speech recognition software. Is Dragon software designed to perform speech recognition tasks? I am not familiar with it. Could you describe more precisely what it does? Does it work for any language and any voice?

Also, is it open source?

Aya "Dragon Naturally Speaking Software" is the best on the market, they do have versions for Languages other than English, and it will work with any voice. It is not open source though, at $99 for the Standard version though it is very cheap.
