Liver Age Spots Causes and Prevention
75
Liver spots is often confused with age spots, liver spots are yellow or dark brown flat frecklelike marks on the skin that is usually found in adult bodies (usually at the start of age 30 up). Liver spots can grow up to an inch in diameter and do sometimes resemble liver in color and shape. They usually appear on the face or the back of the hands. They involve irregularities of the skin's pigment, melanin. The coloration of a liver spot goes deeper than a freckle.
Age spots look similar but have irregular surfaces and look "pasted on." They are thickened areas of skin involving sebaceous glands, which means that they arise on the face, neck, chest, or upper back. Age spots often itch and are usually harmless, although they are removed by doctors, since they can be precancerous.
If you find liver and age spots on your skin, remember that they are a useful warning of too much sun. Although liver spots are not usually a sign of disease, seek medical advice if there is any abnormal change in the color and size.
Causes:
- Too much exposure to the sun's rays.
- Accumulation of waste produced by the high production of free radicals in the skin. When there is a high level of toxins in the body's tissue, the skin is the number one detoxification organs.
Suggested Prevention / Treatments:
- Avoiding excessive sun exposure is the best prevention. If sun exposure cannot be avoided apply a natural sunscreen like virgin coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil.
- Peeling with AHA or with Retin-A is the most convenient since this promotes a change of old skin cells for new ones. Retin-A is a vitamin A derivative much hyped in the 1980's. In the studies there are positive results obtain in using cream containing this drug, but there are also some negative effect like an increased tendency to sunburns, dryness and acne flare-ups and irritated skin.
- Eat a carrot a day or take a beta-carotene supplement to help your body produce its own vitamin A, and follow the advice for keeping your skin healthy in the sun.
- It is important to scrub the skin at least once a week with a brush made with natural fibers (loofah). More than once pound of sweat, uric acid, dead cells and toxins in general is eliminated through the skin. This would damage healthy cells if not eliminated.
- Detoxify your liver by taking aloe vera and/or dandelion root.
- Eat yogurt everyday for healthy digestion.
- Juice fasting for 1 to 3 days is also suggested. Fresh grape or orange juice is recommended.
Most women go to the dermatologist to have their liver / age spots removed but after a few they usually comeback, because they are not treating the cause of the problem. The best treatment is to detoxify your body first and eat lots of fruits and vegetables to clean you system. If the inside of your body is clean it will definitely show in your skin.
