Crime is spreading like an epidemic over the world. As the gap between the have and have not widens, unemployment increases and religious dogmas spread the tentacles, violent crimes are rampant. As it is well known that criminals are born out of situation and hurt people hurt others, becoming victim of crime is no longer a remote possibility. Burglary, theft, fraud and robbery have become order of the day. This is particularly true when you are living in a crime prone area. By following some preventive survival tips you can stay safe in such crime prone area.

  • Keep a low profile: Criminals watch their potential victims and identify the areas of vulnerability to penetrate through the weak point. This point may be money, a relationship or an asset that draws attention increasing your risk of becoming a victim. So try to keep a low profile.
  • Circle of friends: Keep in close touch with small circle of friends that you have known for long time. A seemingly innocent stranger may turn out to be vicious. So be careful and avoid exposing yourself to large community of little known people. If you are a bachelor sharing space in a commune or with your buddy stay alert and avoid bringing strangers home.
  • Home safety: Keep valuables under lock and key when not in use. Dangerous objects like firearms should be kept in a safe and secured place. Simple self defense products like stun guns should be kept in easily accessible place. If you can fit some modern safety equipments more than your neighbor it is less likely to be targeted by a criminal. Home assistants are more often involved in cases of murder, theft or robbery. So before letting them work in your house make sure they come from a reputed agency and verify the references and credentials.
  • Preventive measures: Fencing of certain areas of neighborhood and employing night guard can serve as deterrents. Avoid walking alone at night in crime prone areas. If you are living in a crime prone area then do not follow a fixed routine for bank visit or leave and return home at same time. This makes you and your home potential targets.
