Living a Life in Balance
70
Health, wealth, love and perfect self expression is the square of life as taught by Florence Scovel Shinn. Perfect self -expression is also described as Divine Destiny. Its finding one's place in the world that no one else can fill. Shinn (b. Sept. 24, 1871 – d. Oct. 17, 1940) was a new thought teacher and writer.
With all the focus on this new revelation of the “Laws of Attraction” and “The Secret”; I thought it worth pointing out that while the commercial aspect of this material is principally about achieving your personal goals through the power of positive thinking, the theme of a life in balance are critical to good health and happiness.
The power of belief is demonstrated everyday when the miracle of prayer seems to be the only viable solution to the tumor that just disappeared or the paraplegic that learns to walk again. We share the stories through viral emails, social networks and Oprah. The only possible answer is that God is at work. I believe this with all my heart but I also believe in the undeniable power of positive thought.
Bible scripture tells us that we need not worry about tomorrow. That worry will not add one day to your life. I am convinced that some people are more “enlightened” than others and they have learned the discipline to trust God in all circumstances. They have been able to control their thoughts and refuse to let their mind wonder off to dwell in the wreckage of the future. They are present and pray for God’s will not their own,
Good health can be contributed to a state of mind, happiness and a spiritual connection.
Christian Pastors, Metaphysicians, Christian Scientist, Eastern Religions all claim the healing power of prayer.
Dr. Wayne Dyer author and inspirational speaker, claims that he has not even had a common cold in over 20 years, attributed to the power positive thought.
Joel Osteen has sold millions of books, Your Best Life Now, that teach throughout that God wants to bless you with health, wealth, love and an intimate connection with your maker. Joel preaches that you have to expect good in your life.
Depak Chopra has written hundreds of books outlining the key to happiness and success is achieved through a positive attitude.
Now I am not making light of any of these teachings by simplifying their message but for me I have to reduce things to the lowest common denominator.
For me, the message is clear, to live a healthy life in balance that I need to trust God, stay in the present, and believe.

I agree with you completely. Religious fanatics have been at the core of our self destructive behavior since the beginning of time. It would definitely be an improvement for all, if people sought a connection with GOD rather than a narrow religious position. My point was that no matter what you personally choose to believe, that the power of Faith in GOD has unimaginable healing power.
A friend of mine in ministry relates to religion as our act to create a connection with GOD but that Christ's crucifiction and resurrection is God's act of creating a connection with us. I like that. It give me relief to all the nuts out there killing each other in the name of religion. I think it makes God sad
Beautifully written and synopsized. A balanced life... Live in the present, live by faith, trust God. I might also add "an attitude of gratitude" and "As a man thinketh, so is he" - and so we must take our thoughts into captivity and direct them by thinking on these things - all that is good, pure, beautiful... I also always hear these words: "Beloved, I wish that you be in health and prosper, even as your soul prospers." That's my prayer for you, too. Thank you, Cole!
Thank you for your kind words of wisdom
There was an actual study done at Duke University Medical Center about the powerful effects of prayer on the health of patients. Those who had a strong commitment to prayer and had others praying for them healed faster than those who did not.
I have seen prayer work time and time again in my own life. It is more than my connection to my higher power, it is my lifeline.
Thank you for a wonderful hub!

Great article - - but, I think the world will fare better if more people became positive thinkers and and depended less on religious beliefs. You only need to look around at the world's trouble spots (throughout history) to see what religion has brought us.
