The Army Lifestyle

So you're wondering what is it like to be in the United States Army?. You probably have some questions as to what are the living conditions like in the united states army, what is the food like in the army, how much work do you do in the army and what is the pay like in the army?.

I will try to asnwer as many common questions as to what the active army life is about. After you have completed your army basic training and army AIT, you go to your assigned base. Every base in the army is diffrent. Starting out you wont make much money army pay rates always change so I cant exactly say what you will get paid every 1rst and 15th of the month but dont expect to be rich. Although the pay isnt much starting out if you dont get in trouble or demoted the salary is very decent after a year and not bad after 2. Considering you live in the barraks they provide, This is mainly pointed twords single soldiers with no dependents. You get a meal card provided to you so you might as eat at whats called the DFAC, the food is not great but your paying for it so why not eat there.

Every army base is diffrent when it comes to living quarters and what soldier gets what type of barracks room. At most army bases you will get your own room, room sizes vary. You might have your own bathroom but from my expierence in the army barracks, you have a room to yourself and there will be a door in which you share a bathroom with another soldier on the other side. Think Hotel room, that door that leads to the other persons room. This isn't so bad pending you do not have a loud room mate who blasts his music loud at all times at night. You wont be paying rent or bills to live there so be greatfull if you have your own room. Some army barracks will assign two soldiers to a room think sharing the same room with a sibling or friend. These rooms are not that big and personal space/personal time in these army barracks room is slim. That explains army living conditions.

Be prepared to wake up 5 days a week and be ready for what the army calls PT, where the whole base does an hour long workout. This is in my opinon is the worst thing the army has in place. You must wake up early before the sun is up commonly PT is held at 6 am mon - fri. You will be expected to be shaved every morning at this time if you are a male, the army has a very strict facial hair shaving policy. And the activities at PT change every day. One day PT will be running or jogging, the next might be a work out that called muscle failure. It changes every day and varies from post to post. After PT is over you will report to work at 9am giving you about 2 hours of free time in the morning which is not so bad.

Army food isnt the greatest and most eat out, that is basically all i have to say compare army food to say, school cafeteria food. Not great but edible.

All and all I must say the army is not as bad as people say or think it is. And in a time where jobs are scarce and few and far between the army, military is not such a bad thing. I hope this answered some of your questions if not feel free to leave a comment with anything you feel like asking me and I will respond. Thanks for reading.
