Living up here in the Rockies

Sorry it took me so long to answer your request, Uzamaki!

I was completely unaware that I had a spot on my Profile Page for requests! I clicked on it out of curiosity and there was a personal request from Uzamaki asking me to write about life in the Rockies. Wow. Thanks!!

I decided to start this Hub with a photo of my son when he was about Uzamaki's age. Martial Arts are very popular in Colorado. Before Rob became completely committed to acting, he was a Kung Fu boy.

Below this photo is one of Rob digging out his Saab after a blizzard. We tend to get dumps when it snows and this was no exception. Colorado's best snow removal system is solar energy- Obama would be proud. One day we have a blizzard and the next day temperatures reach 50 degrees or more.

The Rockies

My nephew from California came to visit last summer and was excited to go down the Gore River in an inner tube with his cousin Paul. He also had fun skateboarding at the skate park.

We love to go up to the mountains for a weekend or longer. In the winter there is skiing, though all the kids snowboard. They think skiing is for old folk like me. One winter I decided to take a snowboarding lesson. I felt like a toddler learning to walk! I kept falling and rolling. It felt good on my spine, actually. I kind of remembered what it was like back when walking upright offered an entirely new perspective. Anyway, my kids passed over their fallen mom while on the chair lift and I could hear them laughing. "I can hear you!" I called. We left before I got the hang of it, but I certainly developed an appreciation for what it takes to stay upright on the dang thing.

The Pepsi Center, host of Our Mammoth

Denver Lacrosse is alive and well

In 2003, the year Colorado got a national lacrosse team, we bought season tickets. It was so much fun to cheer them on and we haven't stopped. The crowd at games is very young- all the old guys have Broncos football tickets or Avalanche hockey tickets or Rockies baseball tickets. Lately people even have Nuggets tickets.

But we love lacrosse. We love the energy and the camaraderie of the fans. We yell "Get in the Box!" with the most studied fans. And my husband and now my college aged son love to oogle the bikini clad girls lounging in the hot tub court-side.

Coloradans have broken the National attendance record countless times. And our Mammoth players never fail to give us an exciting run for our money. This is a fast-paced game and they do not let us down. In 2006, under the coaching of Gary Gait, they won the National Championship.

Castle Rock

Colorado Geology is stunning

There is a town to the southwest of us called Castle Rock. You can see why the town got this name when you study the photo my husband took. He used a watercolor technique to get it to look like a painting, but it is the real thing.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, the town hosts a Starlighting. People gather at dusk in homes nearby or together on Wilcox Street to watch Santa Claus flick on the Christmas Star that sits at the top of Castle Rock. They all sing Silent Night, sip hot chocolate and light candles.

Our church is in Castle Rock and we view this beautiful uplift in all sorts of light and weather.

Beautiful pictures, I especially loved the snow covering the car. My brother lives out in South Lake Tahoe which is one of the few places in the US that probably tops you for snow. He is crazy for the powder so he is out there snowboarding at least 100 days a year. Thanks for sharing your life with us hubbers!

Dear Adam, Thanks for stopping by to see a small bit of my home state.  This Hub is mostly for kids, I guess, lol. It was a response to Uzamaki's request, obviously.  I should do one for the adults.

This week Colorado is hosting the Churchill Cup, which is an International Rugby competition.  I am hoping to attend one of the games, as I have never seen one.  We have a growing population of kids who play rugby and so the league has decided to make Colorado the official site for this North American event. I am hoping the weather cooperates for this, the first annual.  We have had an unseasonable amount of rain...  Great for the garden!!!

Um well yes Storytellersrus but you don't need to give simple words or that stuff the reason is that, i have passed the highest limit in third grade reading classes by reading at least five 295 page books so not to bring anything down but though im "10" doesn't make me a little kid cause well yea.........But nice hub and i was hoping like any different basics on living like here in Minnnesota more than that...........hehehehehe.........But thanks for writing this nice hub....

Did I give simple words???  Well umazaki I wasn't talking down to you, I was rather telling about stuff my son and my nephews did that might interest you!!!  I have already figured out that you are a very bright and I should say precocious kid, haha.  I started to write the differences between our states and it got so long that I am putting it into a Hub. I hope you read that one, because it is for you! Your friend and supportive admirer who would never want to write down to you.

Uzamaki, I have only self published books for my family. My focus is helping others write their stories. Thank you so much for your support, though. That is very sweet!

I do have a story at HubPages that I wrote about my mother. Hopefully it will inspire others to start writing the story inside of them. You can read about that here: http://www.examiner.com/x-11219-Denver-Young-Adult

Did you read my new Hub about Minnesota versus Colorado? You are inspiring lots of writing, friend!
