67Dissociative Disorders
There are five Dissociative Disorders listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders:
Dissociative Amnesia;Dissociative Fugue;Dissociative Indentity Disorder (formelry multi-personality disorder); Depersonalization Disorder, and Dissociative Disorder Not otherwise Specified.
Each person is unqiue, and will require a tailored treatment plan to best meet their needs. If you could be more specific on which Dissociative Disorder you are referring too, it would be helpful.
If you have any of these conditions, it can be very frightening. For any of these, you should definetly seek out face-to-face medical and mental health treatment.
For chronic Dissociative Disorder, It has been my experience that those who enlist friends and family to help, sometimes their anxiety levels decrease. It's not always easy to tell the ones that we love, that we need help and why.
Trusted friends and family can help keep a a person who is in a dissociative state, safe. Safe from themselves, and safe from others. They can also be there for reality checks. Sometimes, it may be difficult to determine what is real and what is not. Make a plan. Tell your friends and family members what you need them to do, if you become depersonalized.
Medication, individual and group therapy may also provide some relief. Definetly do not try to go it alone.
