Clearing the land and moving the trailer

The mobile home we had purchased was a 1979, New Yorker, most people would not take on the task of remodeling this. The amount of work for two unexperienced individuals, and one of those two recovering from back surgery, wasn't exactly the perfect construction team, but we knew what we wanted so we jumped on in.

The pictures are of the land when we first found the property and the task at hand building roads, burning brush, foundation or no foundation this was our first steps.. before we even started on the trailer. We made a makeshift livingroom out doors,( a screen room) with no power did the rest. And yes we even dug our own well. What a muddy task that was.

If you are not a professional ,I would not advise this method. We were not professional and stubbled all along the way. But with help we did accomplish a 12 ft. well system that is still running very nicely today. Have a look at the pics.

The land, as you can see did have some sort of structure entry way, we needed to use the backhoe to drag, clean and about 16,000.00 of fill and gravel brought in, we had our drive. We did cut, clear, and burned alot of the fallen srubs, trees etc. that the land company left behind when they last cut on the property.

We had talked with serveral locals about a foundation, slab, or a dirt slab for the trailer, it was about 50 -50 so we went with the cheaper, a dirt pad. Now most people would think this isnot a good idea. Especial where we live up Norht. The frost heaves could shift your building, right? Well speaking with some oldtimers, they told us once its settled, its fine. Just make sure you have plenty of blocks for leveling. I think I had purchased almost 150 cement blocks, I know it was two pick up trucks full, and then I had to go and get more. The leveling did go pretty smoothly. Until my husband tryed to lift the front end of the trailer up the backhoe and it made everything unleveled again. and so we started over again. Every day was a long, work day.. when I would get discourage my sweet husband would remind me, its all part of construction Honey.. and then I would smile and back to work.
