Local trends in the home improvement industry is on the low side.  So if you’re a general contractor this can suck.  But the good news is there are still some homeowners spending big money on their home, this is the minority.  However, most are doing smaller projects.

So marketing on the internet for local search should be a high priority! Due to the recession, trimming on your pricing is a good thing to do.  Another thing to note there are more repair leads than the actual remodeling leads on the internet according to “Service Magic” an online referral service.

Here is a site that you can go and check out for your local state the local trends for home improvement projects, Reader Digest collects these data nationwide and can give you great insights.  Click on this. It is a “Cost vs Value” report and you can click on the appropriate states to see whats relevant to you.  What this report shows you is most homeowners are looking for smaller projects.  I know that I am repeating myself, but thats the facts.  Hint for you general contractors optimize your websites for these smaller projects and repairs leads on the internet.

Every aspect of home improvement should be on this bandwagon until the economy gets better.  West Coast Vinyl a window company for example has to look at the smaller package to compete, and trim some of their pricing to be competitive.

On the nationwide level there are many small businesses making these changes to stay competitive, and ramping up on their search marketing presences for their website, so shouldn’t you being doing the same?
