The Holy Grail's True Location
The most significant, sought after artifact of all time is The Holy Grail. The Holy Grail, referred to as the Grail, was the vessel which Jesus drank from during the Last Supper. It was also the cup which caught Jesus’ blood during his crucifixion. It is said that if a person drinks from it, that person will have eternal life; drinking from the Grail can also heal all wounds. The attributes and history the Grail carries makes it an invaluable item, and because of this, people from all around the world have conducted searches and excavations attempting to find the Grail. There have been numerous possible locations for the Grail subjected by many adventurers and religious seekers, but all of which have been unverified. The place that ties into these possible locations is the city of Glastonbury, England. I believe, without a doubt, that the Grail is hidden within this city. The Grail obviously originated from The Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples. The Grail, sometimes thought of as a chalice, was imprisoned in the tomb that Jesus was buried in. Within a few days after Jesus was placed there for eternal rest, the tomb was empty and the Grail was gone. Laurence Gardner states that, “The stone door to the tomb was found rolled away from the opening, revealing an empty tomb”. This shows that the Grail had to have been taken somewhere. Many researchers seem to think it was Joseph who took it considering it was him who used the Grail to catch Jesus’ blood during his crucifixion. After that, the Grail didn’t appear again for centuries. Whisperings of the Grail started to resurface during King Arthur’s days, around the 12th and 13th centuries. King Arthur’s existence has been widely disputed over the years, however, him and his men’s search for the Grail has been an argumentative story for ages. Nonetheless, the biggest case to dig up for the search of the Grail is that of King Arthur’s and his men. Dan Brown assesses that “admittedly most modern legends placed the Grail somewhere in the United Kingdom. Even King Arthur's mythical, Grail-rich Isle of Avalon was now believed to be none other than Glastonbury, England”. This supports my accusation of the Grail being in Glastonbury with much credibility. The Arthurian legends suggest that Avalon, also referred to as, the Glass Island, might be the resting place of the Grail. Glastonbury and the Glass Island are linked. This association can be confirmed by Justin Griffin stating that, “Since it is know that Glastonbury was originally called Ynys Witrin, meaning ‘Glass Island,’ it is most likely that Glastonbury is both Avalon and the ‘Glass Island’ of Arthurian and Grail legends.” It is decidedly so that the Grail was brought to England by Joseph of Arimathia. Michael Baigent says that “according to certain accounts, the Grail was brought by Joseph of Arimathea to England more specifically, to Glastonbury”. However, he also says that “according to other accounts, it was brought by the Magdalene to France.” There have been many searches for the Grail, historic and current. An article about the Grail states that “A number of knights undertook the quest for the Grail, in tales that have become annexed to the Arthurian mythos.” Even in this time period, various organizations seem to articulate that they have the Grail. The same article states that “The fate of the Holy Grail is unknown. Ownership has been attributed to various groups (including the Knights Templar). There are cups claimed to be the Grail in several churches like the Valencia cathedral.” Church-wise, the article also informs that “Other stories claim that the Grail is buried beneath Rosslyn Chapel or is to be found deep in the spring at Glastonbury Tor.” The Rosslyn Chapel is also considered to be the holding place of the Grail. The Rosslyn Chapel was built by the Knights Templar in 1446; the Knights originally consisted of nine men and whose job was to guard the Grail. Regarding the Chapel, Brown declares that
“For centuries, this stone chapel had echoed with whispers of the Holy Grail's presence. The whispers had turned to shouts in recent decades when ground-penetrating radar revealed the presence of an astonishing structure beneath the chapel—a massive subterranean chamber.”
These results have yet to be officially verified by any conventional method. It is definitely a plausible location, but Glastonbury proves to be the more logical choice for the Grail; it is where Joseph went to after Christ’s death. Also, Stuart Carter states that “many people believe that Glastonbury is the most likely place where Joseph hid the Holy Grail. He is thought to have sailed with his companions to Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury - where suddenly his staff flourished into a living hawthorn bush, the Holy Thorn of Glastonbury. Joseph took this as a sign that this was the destined resting place of the Holy Grail.” Geographically, Glastonbury and the Rosslyn Chapel are very similar. Brown states that “the chapel's geographic coordinates fall precisely on the north-south meridian that runs through Glastonbury.” Aside from a geographic aspect, Glastonbury has a more spiritual history to it than Rosslyn Chapel. Vincent Bridges wrote that “tradition has it that Joseph of Arimathea brought Christianity, and possibly the Virgin Mother herself, to Britain within a decade of Jesus' death. The first Christian church in the world was then the small circular wattled structure at Glastonbury.” One could say that Christianity officially began in Glastonbury. The Grail Quest is not to be taken lightly; to Vincent Bridges, “The Grail is all things to all people, and to all it is The Mystery.” When people consider the Grail as myth, they aren’t accounting for the evidence that has been presented by countless religious and research officials. With new technology and the undying interest people have to search for the Grail, it will be found. The evidence here points to the Grail being at Glastonbury, England. The Templar Knights’ job was to guard the Grail which was supposedly hidden underneath the Rosslyn Chapel. Although this makes sense and carries a great deal of logic, the Arthurian legends all point to Glastonbury. Joseph of Arimathia and King Arthur’s histories dictate that Glastonbury is a more suited location for the Grail than the Rosslyn Chapel is. Now, the only left to do is to conduct an excavation within the remains of Glastonbury and discover the ultimate prize, The Holy Grail.
I hope this somewhat in-depth research has driven your conclusion to match mine. Thank you for reading!! This is blogticky, OUT.
