Loch Lomond Golf Course is one of at least 6 courses built around the famous Loch Lomond in Scotland. The Loch itself is the largest freshwater Loch in the UK at over 24 miles long and up to 600ft deep, and surrounded by mountains.

The course, built right on the banks of Loch Lomond, is just 22 miles from Glasgow (about a 30 minute drive from Glasgow International Airport).

Loch Lomond Golf Course is probably the most famous of all the courses around the Loch as it has been host to the Scottish Open since 1996.

The course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish and stretches to 7100 yards off the championship tees.

The Course

Loch Lomond golf course is a challenge for all players, and the pros have to play the course at its full length of 7100 yards with a Par 71 target.

The course record is held by Retief Goosen from South Africa, with a 9 under par 62.

There are a number of excellent holes on the course, the longest of which is the 6th hole, which at 625 yards is a challenging par 5.

The Scottish Open

The Scottish Open has been played at Loch Lomond since 1996, just a few years after the course was opened for play, and continues to attract some of the best golfers in the world.

The list of winners of the Scottish Open is a truly international line up:

2008 Graeme McDowell, Northern Ireland
2007 Gregory Havret, France
2006 Johan Edfors, Sweden
2005 Tim Clark, South Africa
2004 Thomas Levet, France
2003 Ernie Els, South Africa
2002 Eduardo Romero, Argentina
2001 Retief Goosen, South Africa
2000 Ernie Els, South Africa
1999 Colin Montgomerie, Scotland
1998 Lee Westwood, England
1997 Tom Lehman, United States
1996 Thomas Bjorn, Denmark

Hi Mark,

Nice photo of Loch Lomond, the mountains, a bit of blue sky, and my homeland. I didn't know that there were as many as 6 golf courses around the loch.

All the best,

Mick

Hi Mick

It is certainly a beautiful place. The are quite a few courses round the loch (being as it is so big) but I believe Loch Lomond GC is the only one on the shores. It is rated in the Top 100 courses in the world...so can't be too bad ;-)

cheers

Mark
