Logitech Cordless Laser Mouse

Notebook mice are gadgets that I have not given much thought to. After once owning a tiny little mouse that I had to use with my finger tips I never looked back. But apparently there have been major improvements since then.

Logitech's reputation for great computer peripherals is nothing new, but when they came up with the VX and the MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mice they had the high end user in mind. High end features are only part of their appeal - they are made so user friendly that even power users find them substantial. The only negative remark made by some users is that lefties will probably not care for these mice.

Although both the VX and the MX Revolution are similar in many ways there are a few noticeable differences. First let's look at the similarities.

USB connectivity is faster than the Bluetooth connectivity of other wireless mice. Personally I like Bluetooth better due to the simplicity of no extra pieces, but power users appreciate the USB 2.0 speed.

The scroll wheel is significant for both models. Up to 7 seconds of free spinning allows extremely quick movement through a long document - especially if you are searching for a particular paragraph or phrase. Once you are close to the information you want the wheel can switch to a line by line scroll.

Just about any surface is fine for laser mice. I have found that my glass top desk is their downfall however.

VX Revolution

The VX is smaller than the MX but that does not seem to be an issue with most users even if they do not consider their hands to be small. This version has one scroll wheel located on the top of the device. The wheel operates very smoothly with Micro-Gear Precision. If you prefer the slower line by line scrolling you can configure it with a button on the bottom of the mouse.

Another button on this mouse gives you the ability to zoom in and out on any document or picture.

The USB micro-receiver can be stored away right on the mouse when not in use.

The VX Revolution is rather unique in that it uses a single AA battery for power. For a mobile device this can be a handy feature, AA batteries are much more compact than a power supply.

Price wise the VX Revolution will probably set you back anywhere from under $45.00 on Amazon to $79.00 full retail.

MX Revolution

Unlike the VX Revolution the MX Revolution has 2 scroll wheels. The wheel on top has the micro-Gear Precision and instead of the need to configure from the bottom side of the mouse - just push on the scroll wheel and it will change to the line by line scroll.

The side scroll wheel is also known as the thumb wheel. Flip through documents and even cut and paste with ease by simply toggling.

The MX has an internal rechargeable lithium ion battery. The power runs down quick so it is best to turn if off when not in use because it does not have a sleep mode. There is a handy battery indicator to help insure that you don't run out of power in an inopportune time.

USB connector on the MX is a dongle. Unfortunately it does not stow away on the mouse and it does not recharge the battery when in use.

Pricing on the MX Revolution runs a bit higher than the VX. Retail is approximately $99.00 but can be purchased on Amazon for under $70.00.

Even though these are fairly expensive mice they do have some pretty nice features. Small but not too small, wireless, smooth operation, multiple buttons that make your life easier - it is hard to as for more.
