London: one drunk mans guide
64Intoxicated and Lost: The story of my life
It was in the summer of 2002 when I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath in England. My friend and I were about half lit on a Friday afternoon when we decided to head to London for the weekend. We took a cab to the train station and headed off on our journey. We immediately found the refreshment car and started drinking again. By the time that we had arrived in London we were both drunk and neither of us had ever been there again. We walked out of the train station and wandered about a block before seeing a huge Holiday Inn. I had counted about half a dozen intoxicated people urinating in the street from the train station to the hotel and thought that it was weird that they none of them seemed worried about it. I found out later that it wasn't illegal to urinate on the street in England as long as you have one hand on a car but on the down side just having car keys makes you guilty of a DUI. We got a room at the Holiday Inn and were given the key. I entered our room first and being drunk pulled a string thinking that it would turn on the light. To my amazement it was a fire alarm. It didn't take long before an employee of the hotel came up and turned it off. He was not surprised though he said that Americans usually do this and laughed. I felt that it was only right to tip the man for making him walk up all of those stairs and he was very appreciative of the five quid that I gave him. It didn't take us long to throw our stuff down and head off to a pub. I can't tell you the name of any club, bar, or pub that we went to the entire weekend other than one. It was Sunday when we stumbled into a place named Church. It was the greatest club I have ever been to. It was a pub, bar, strip club, and dance club all rolled into one. i met so many different types of people there that I would feel bad for leaving some of them out. I do recommend going and seeing it for yourself if you ever get the chance though. On Saturday we were taking in the tourist traps when I discovered that you could drink in a car as long as the alcohol was not with in the reach of the driver. I expected Big Ben to be a lot bigger. It should be called Medium sized Ben. We had just finished our tour of the Tower of London when my friend got this great idea to see where the Beatles had started. I chuckled to myself but said nothing. The Beatles where from Liverpool but I allowed him to embarrass himself to a cab driver. He asked how much the cabbie would charge him to take him there and then argued the price when the cabbie told him it would be about 150 pounds. After he had cursed the cabbie and told him to shove off I explained that they were from Liverpool. He laughed and said no wonder that guy was getting so mad at me. I then told him that we could go to Penny Lane if he would like and instead we decided to go and get drunk. There are plenty of great places to drink in London and I think I puked in them all. If you get the chance go and try it for yourself.

Wow they took the bars off of the trains! Why would you want to ride on them now then. That was the best part about not driving to your destination
Sorry, I was talking about the London Underground, not the Intercity trains. However, being drunk on a train won't do you too many favours either!
Thanks for the advice and I'll keep it in mind the next time I cross the pond.

Thanks for decorating our capital city in your own special way!
By the way, Big Ben is the name of the bell, not the tower that houses it, but most Brits don't know that either.
Come back when you're sober, but don't drink on public transport, it's illegal now.
