Giving it Your Best Shot

Appearance counts for everything in this life. Generally, people go by what they see to gather their impressions about others. If you attend an interview, your personal appearance is definitely under review. If you walk on the street, critics either see you as hot or not. On the beach, eyes either look at you or look over you. You aren't really craving attention from everybody, but sometimes the world can tell you whether you are taking great care of yourself. Some folks make excuses for doing a poor job of personal hygiene. "I'm in construction", and so that gives them a plausible reason to be seen in a bank-line wearing a hard hat, boots splattered with paint, and overalls seemingly worn for over a hundred times without setting foot at the laundry. What is rather ridiculously offensive is that you stand in the line and these sweaty folks don't know how to keep their distance either. They push against you as if to say that by doing so, the cashier is going to handle her hands a little faster.

It takes some amount of concentration to maintain a certain standard of self-upkeep. It's therefore a mystery how some folks find the time to allot their efforts in creating conflicts and other stressful situations with other individuals. One piece of advice in this regard is that the less you pay attention to other people's prerogatives, the more time you find to plough into look and feeling your best. You need a lot of time to build yourself mentally and physically, since whatever is on the inside shows on the outside. Preferably, if you start from the outside you can work your way towards the inside. This approach can be more rewarding because when you look in the mirror, if you like what you see, that is enough to give you the impetus to think positively about your personal attributes.

In treating yourself physically, you don't have to search for cost-intensive methods of pampering, like going to spas or cosmetic shops. Nowadays, some women are insisting on taking their men to do manicures and pedicures. That's fine if you can afford to do that, but it is really not necessary. You can go for just the basics, but you must make sure that consistency is what you work with, in applying your treatment from head to toe. You start from the top and your head is perhaps the most central part of your body. It contains your brain, so how much more do you think you need to groom it to make it look the part? If you like to keep it shaved, it's up to you to prevent bump invasion by applying things like rubbing alcohol and other cleansing agents to the shaver you use, and also to your scalp and its surrounding areas. If you decide that this is the look you want to maintain, it will take some effort to keep it in order. The stubs that easily spring up overnight need to be dealt with immediately as this can become a source of unsightliness. It's good to use a gentle body lotion instead of a shaving cream because the lotion tends to be more soothing and is less likely to make the hair follicles become irritated. Since, you are dealing with consistency, considering to visit the barber is out of the picture for guys who shave their skulls. It's not a wise idea to live at the barber if you are scraping your scalp, especially for black brothers, given your predisposition to pick up incurable diseases at the back of your heads. It means that it's best to invest in an affordable shaving kit or simply go for the Gillette Mach3 with it pivotal and disposable blades.

Some guys prefer low-cut hair, others like to let it all hang out. Whatever the style you choose to go with, you must have a daily method of making it look well-kept. If your head is not in order, it spoils it for the rest of your structure. If you have long hair, it's best to keep it oiled to enhance your appearance. Hence, you have to decide on some oil product and make sure that you are never in short supply. Nothing looks worse than a man's flaky unkempt hair that he keeps scratching while releasing a cloud of dust, simultaneously standing in close proximity to others. Wives and girlfriends should find this disgusting as well. The longer you let your hair grow, the more unmanageable it becomes. Hence, if you go for length, you will require more time on your hands to make sure that it stays in tip top condition. You will need to wash it more regularly than the ordinary, which normally most hygienic men do on the go while taking a shower.

Then it's down to your ears, and some guys tend to forget that these areas actually exist as parts of their bodies, unless they need to use them for the purpose they serve. But as for cleaning them, that's something they ignore on their things-to-do list. Again, you are standing in a line and your eyes happen to involuntarily wander off a bit and land on one of the ears of the guy standing next or adjacent to you. Even if he looks smart by the apparels on his back, dirty ear lobes instantly change his score from the highest to the lowest degree. A box of Q-Tips can do the tricks, but nothing beats using your wash rag to carefully penetrate the crevices and corners of your ears, in and around them during a shower. Luckily, at least once a day is usually sufficient to keep them in good order.

Facial hairs need to be dealt with in the same way you treat your head. This is another high maintenance part of your upper body, and nothing has a more drastic effect on your appearance than untrimmed sideburns, or idle strands of hair hanging from your ears or nostrils. These kinds of hair, especially those found on sideburns and beards, seem to have fertilizers in their follicles, and can start returning within a day after cutting and shaving. Hence, a clipper can be handy to make sure that they are uniformly in place, or close-shaved if you decide to get rid of them. If you cut those in your nostrils and ears, they usually stay away for a week or so. Whatever you decide to do with your facial hair, you need to consider that a part of your daily chore, examining the relevant facets of your face to keep them in admirable condition.

Then the fulcrum is centered around your mouth, and your lips make all the difference. You can't afford to minimize the importance of keeping your lips clean, since it is on the outside of your mouth. When you smile, they are the first to give you away, indicating whether you pay attention to hygiene. Diseased lips ought to be avoided at all costs. That's why you need to be careful what you do with your mouth apart from talking and eating your meals. Lips laced with bumps and bruises, cold sores and fever blisters are minuses from your physical attractiveness and your adherence to normal hygienic routines. Inside the mouth has a subject of its own. A visit to your dentist two or three times annually is the best way to keep cavities at bay. Decayed teeth are one source of bad breath, and your physical appearance can slide to zero, once it is discovered that it is one of your health flaws. It detracts from your self-confidence and the need to be self-assertive in conversations. Normal daily brushing is essential to keep your teeth healthy, but preventing deposits from developing needs flossing and dentist intervention.

Keeping chest and other lower body hairs is a matter of choice, but outgrowth can be unattractive. Hence, they need to be maintained, especially those in areas exposed for public vision. Normally, a body that is shaved is more accessible to being oiled and conditioned. When all that is taken care of, it's time to treat your nails, and that doesn't mean to paint them as some women are pushing their men to do. It's the same with the eyebrows. As a man you don't have to do anything to them, unless you are trying to satisfy your woman, and that's your choice. However, healthy nails are determined by regularly cleaning in and around the cuticles. They should be examined before leaving the house. Normally, taking a regular bath should assist in keeping them clean.

Your skin needs to be replenished with oils and a good body lotion should help to keep dryness under control. Dry, choppy skin is very repulsive and men tend to ignore that aspect of themselves, in a show of machismo. However, your skin is the cover of your body and if it degenerates, that can affect your life expectancy. You therefore need to apply a mild lotion advisably everyday to keep it going and glowing. And one more thing! You must apply the liquid from the crown of your head to the sole of your feet.

Once you take such an active interest in your appearance everyday, you will start to like what you see in the mirror. Then you will begin to make sure that it becomes your way of life to look and feel your best. But wait! Something is missing. Your body can fall out of shape if you are not involved in a regular fitness program. That way, even if you are wearing 'name-brand' clothes, while your body is oiled and dandy, a protruded gut, for example, subtracts a lot of points from your appearance. Hence to complete your effort, you need to get in shape. To show you how, read the following article: http://hubpages.com/hub/Weighing-in-on-Weight.
