So When Is The Best Fresh Water Fishing Season?

In my personal opinion, remember, this is just me stating this, you could get different answers from as many diferent people that you ask, but in my opinion, the Spring to Summer transition is by far the best time to catch large fish out of fresh water.  The reasons behind this are simple, most of the predator fish this time of year are spawning, and this makes them a very easy catch.  You can easily locate them, usually visibly spotting them from your boat.  A good fishing guide will be able to put you on fish easily as well.

How Do I Pick The Right Fresh Water Fishing Guides?

If you are new at this, or just want someone else to put you on the fish for a change, you are going to need a few tips at picking out through the masses of fresh water fishing guides.  What this means, is that there are a lot of people out there ready to take you fishing, but not all of them has what it takes to really get the job done.  If you find a good guide during spawning season, ask him what bait he is going to use, and if he can help you spot fish, or fish for visible spawning predators.

What Is The Best Fresh Water Fishing Bait?

Any of the minnow family of baitfish will make an excellent fresh water fishing bait, but in my opinion, once again, personal opinion only, I prefer to use big old fat wild shiners.  I have caught more fish over 5 pounds using a wild shiner than on any other type of bait.  Even caught more on shiners than on a handful of baits combined.  There isn't any explanation needed, big predator fish love a big prey fish to dine on, plain and simple. If you plan on keeping your catch, you are going to need to follow a few regulations.

What Are The Fresh Water Fishing Regulations?

Fresh water fishing regulations vary from state to state, but in the grand scheme of things, there are a few rules that you must follow, unless you want to end up with a bucket full of fines and citations. First, any angler over 16 years old on a boat must have their own fishing license. This is a big one with regulators, and you will quickly get a fine for it. The next, is keeping more than your fair share of the catch. If you are caught with an illegal number of your target species on board, you are going to get a lot of fines. Usually one citation per fish. Make sure you check up with your local and state to determine what your exact fresh water fishing regulations are.
