In the year 2009 Kim Kardashian is old news. She's done the 'tape of intimacies', she's done the Playboy cover, she's starred in a reality tv show and Paris Hilton has called her fat and then apologized for it. That's pretty much all the fame any one person can handle in a life time. Now it's big sister Khloe's turn to shine.
I call her the big sister because she's considerably taller, indicating greater intelligence and improved breeding potential. She could be younger, she could be older. Opinions and facts vary (the official line is that Khloe Kardashian's birthday is the 27th of June 1984 and Kim Kardashian's birthday is the 21st of October 1980, but I wouldn't trust official lines, remember that whole Olympic gymnast birth certificate scandal?)
Unlike Kim, Khloe has managed to maintain a fairly clean public persona. Unless you count the DUI in 2007 and 30 day jail sentence that followed, but that's hardly an issue. Sure getting behind the wheel whilst drunk off your proverbial ass and driving around putting everyone's lives at risk is frowned upon for the majority of the population, it is practically mandatory when you're a pseudo celebrity trying to make a name for herself.
When she's not being Kim Kardashian's assistant, Khloe Kardashian sells pretty clothes in a pretty clothing store. She catches a lot of flak from celebrity media for not being a twiggy little thing, but that doesn't stop her from being as she would say, a 'Goddess'. The sheer number of comments on related articles show that there is already a groundswell of young female support for Khloe, which is heartwarming to say the least.
On the plus side (or plus size, heh, see what I did there?) it's probably a good sign that young women are finding a role model who isn't suffering from crack assisted anorexia. On the not so plus side, it's Khloe Kardashian fer chrissakes.
Oh, and before you leave your little “omg I love Khloe so much , she rocks I hate you for saying anything negative about her” comment, spare a thought for the fact that unless you happen to be the daughter of a really rich guy who made his money by getting murderers off, or a celebrity, you're never going to be anything like her. That's the good news. Khloe's so called “life” is nothing but a pipe dream designed to encourage you to buy a mess of make up and clothes and to aspire to be a slightly less vapid version of Kim.
It's a big world out there girls, and whilst you idle the hours away dreaming of how great it would be to be like Khloe, your own dreams are dying silently. If the advertisers have their way you'll never spend a moment thinking about what you really want, instead you'll buy into the myth of celebrity that surrounds Khloe, Kim and the rest of their benighted family. You'll spend your lives as mindless consumers, pawns to marketing professionals who know exactly how to make you feel inadequate. You'll buy shiny things to feel better only to discover that the shiny things aren't enough. You'll have surgery to get the right body, only to discover that the right body isn't enough either. You'll try to be more pretty, more popular and more rich than those around you only to wonder why on the inside all you feel like doing is crying.
There's a reason why half of these young 'celebrity' women get drunk and high and then get behind the wheel with a self destructive death wish, and it's not because they're oh so cool having a super fun awesome life.
Why not try aspiring to something more than the latest 'person product' pushed at you on TV?
