Why am I writing a hub about Los Angeles Lasik?

Well, it's kind of a long story.  I have recently spoken to two people I know well, who have both undergone the LASIK surgery procedure.  And they both live in Los Angeles.  Then, tonight, I was hanging out with my girlfriend watching the new HBO show "Hung" and somehow the topic of Lasik eye surgery came up.

I was rubbing my eyes and somehow the topic of my contact lenses came up.  It had been a long hot day and I was in front of the computer for a good portion of it, so my eyes were red and sore.  Contact lenses get very dry as the day goes along, especially if you are staring at a bright computer screen (which most of us seem to do these days). 

My girlfriend said, "Why don't you get Lasik?  That might make things easier for you and your vision problems will be solved."  

In Los Angeles Lasik Eye Surgery seems to be quite a popular procedure.  I wanted to explore this a little bit more and this is what I came up with.  It's a little tongue in cheek and maybe a little hard on Angelenos, buts let's be honest, we deserve it!

Why is LASIK eye surgery in Los Angeles so popular?

1) We all want to look and feel young.  This is so true in a city like L.A.  A lot of people (although I'm not one of them) feel self-conscious about wearing glasses.  Some feel that contact lenses are a hassle.  For this reason, people seek vision specialists who can provide them with laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (which is the full name for the laser surgery).

2) L.A. is a very large city with a lot of professionals who like to burn the candle at both ends.  They party hard and work hard when they're done partying.  Professionals tend to have money to put towards forward-thinking medical and vision procedures.

3) L.A. makes up one of the largest media markets in the world.  It's the home of Hollywood, a large part of the music business, and contains much of the world's star-making apparatus.  It's clearly a place where people take risks and are on the cutting edge of what's trendy.  

4) Some people get lasik because it is a refractive surgery that cures visual aberrations such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.  I have only been half-joking in this list of why this procedure is so popular in LaLa-Land.  There are many people out there who are helped by this surgery. 

5) People in LA are active.  We like to go to the beach, hike, and generally be outside enjoying the great weather year round.  This is another reason, a lot of people consider Los Angeles Lasik.  

Whether or not you are a candidate for this type of surgery is entirely up to your eye doctor or surgeon. Some visual aberrations will not be repaired by LASIK, while other may be in some circumstances. It is something that not everyone is a candidate for.
