What Are Man Boobs?

Man boobs occur for two main reasons. One reason is due to a medical condition called gynecomastia. Man boobs often occur in men who are overweight or obese.

Unlike true gynaecomastia, which is caused by growth of the mammary glands, these breasts are simply deposits of fat beneath the skin. Man boobs can be formed due to many types of disease or illness, obesity, abuse of drugs etc.

Man boobs also known by its medical term as Gynecomastia which is Greek for women like breasts is a wide spread condition and effects around 40 to 70 percent of all males. It may affect just one breast or both and is an extremely embarrassing condition for it sufferers.

Exercising to get rid of man boobs is about burning excess calories stored in the form of fat. So, if you want to get rid of man boobs through exercise alone, then you would do better by working the bigger muscles in the body such as the glutes (buttocks), thighs, then chest, shoulders and back. Exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling and rowing are all aerobic exercises when done at a low intensity.

Excercises To Help You to Lose Man Boobs (With all exercise routines; you should always consult you doctor or physician before commencing any rigorous activities).

  • Free Standing Squat: This exercise is one of the nest exercises for increasing your metabolism and thus reducing your overall body fat and helping you to Lose Those Man Boobs. There are several ways to do this exercise. For our purpose we won’t require weights, instead we will use a mixture of slow squats and fast paced squats. Method: stand upright with feet shoulder width apart. Now slowly lower by bending at the hips and knees keeping your back as upright as possible without falling back. (DO NOT lean forward as this will place undue stress on your lower back and knees and can lead to injury). Bend until you thighs are just above parallel to the ground, i.e. do not go too deep into the squat as this will also place undue stress on your joints. Return slowly to the starting position. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions and “sets”: I would suggest you start off with ten repetitions for three “sets” i.e. 30 total squats, increasing to 30 x 3 sets (90 squats) over the course of a few weeks. Once you have the strength to do 30 slow repetitions, alternate your squat “sets” by doing your first set slowly and deliberately and then “speeding” up your pace for the second and third sets – Tip: Check out YouTube for videos on how to perform all of these excercises.
  • Push Up: Variety is the keyword when performing your push-up routine. The Pectoral muscle group are made up of a number of muscle structures, all performing various functions and we want to target as many of these functions as we can, thus increasing our chances of success when it comes to getting rid of our man boobs. If you haven’t done a push-up for sometime I would suggest breaking into these gently and if necessary do the first couple of weeks or so of push-ups on your knees. This reduces the stress on your lower back and you can still improve your chest strength and mobility (stretch) using this method; however, don’t just go through the motions, the secret of any exercise routine is to consistently increase the difficulty. With push-ups this means increasing the repetitions, varying the width of your hands from shoulder width to hands touching in the centre of your chest and also your hands slightly wider than your chest. Another great way of increasing the resistance of the push-up is to move your hands further forward in your starting position or further back.. You can also raise your feet on a chair thus performing a decline push-up (head lower than feet) of you could also perform a push-up by holding either side of a dining type chair and lower your upper body – moving your feet further and further back to increase the resistance. Again start of slowly and increase the number of repetitions, the number of overall sets and also the speed and variation.

Aerobic exercises:

The Free Standing Squat, if carried out at a fast pace is an excellent method of increasing your aerobic capacity thus burning calories, reducing your body fat and speeding up the process of losing your man boobs; however, this is strictly for intermediate to advanced levels only. Please make sure you have a good level of strength in your legs before attempting “fast” squats. – Again videos on fast paced squats can be found on YouTube.com. It is better to build up gently over a few weeks rather than diving in to fast and causing injury.

· Skipping: Is an excellent overall aerobic exercise and it’s no wonder boxers and proponents of skipping have in general excellent physiques. Now if you do not have any skipping ropes or a sufficient area to use skipping ropes, fear not… you can still perform a skipping exercise without ropes; yes it is possible to get the same level of intensity form your “rope-less routine” as your would from using a rope. What’s more you have less chance of injury when it comes to mimicking the cross rope technique of “rocky” – believe me there’s nothing more embarrassing then performing this technique, tripping on the rope and falling at the feet of some young “gym bunny” – Yes it has happened to me and I’m a seasoned “skipper”. Skipping in essence is similar to running on the spot.The main variance is the use of the arms, instead of being held close to the chest in a 90 degree angle they are held down near the hips and rotated. Once again you can vary the way in which you hold your arms, even swinging them up as if doing a bicep curl. You can also add resistance in the shape of a can of food or a bottle if water in each hand. – I know I keep saying this; however, you can learn how to perform so many excercises simply by searching YouTube.com

All of the above linked to a sensible diet can and will help you to sloe your man boobs. None of the exercises require specialist equipment, expensive gym membership or the embarrassment of performing these in front of others. You can perform all excercises between closed doors. Once you have reduced your man boobs you can then decided if you want to become a “gym rat”.
