This diet came from a man who attends our church that is in the military. It was my understanding that military people use this diet when they need to get in shape quickly.

Yes, I tried the diet myself, and only was able to go for two days because of hypoglycemic symptoms. I lost 5 pounds in two days. Two of my friends went on it and both of them reported an 8 pound loss in 3 days.

PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING!

I have posted this hub for information purposes only! I am not responsible for anything! Please check with your doctor before starting this diet.

3 DAY DIET

DAY 1: BREAKFAST--1/2 GRAPEFRUIT, 1 SLICE TOAST,

2 TBS. PEANUT BUTTER, COFFEE OR TEA

LUNCH--1/2 CUP TUNA, 1 SLICE TOAST, COFFEE OR TEA

DINNER--2 SLICES ANY TYPE OF MEAT (ABOUT 3

OZ), 1 CUP GREEN BEANS, 1/2 BANANA, 1 SMALL

APPLE, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

DAY 2: BREAKFAST--1 EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST, 1/2 BANANA

LUNCH--1 CUP COTTAGE CHEESE (OR 1 SLICE

CHEDDAR CHEESE), 1 HARD BOILED EGG, 5

SALTINE CRACKERS

DINNER--2 HOT DOGS, (no buns), 1 CUP BROCCOLI,

1/2 CUP CARROTS, 1/2 BANANA, 1/2 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

DAY 3: BREAKFAST--5 SALTINE CRACKERS, 1 SLICE CHEDDAR

CHEESE, 1 SMALL APPLE

LUNCH--1 HARD BOILED EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST

DINNER--1 CUP TUNA, 1/2 BANANA, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

DIET WORKS ON CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN AND IS PROVEN. DO NOT VARY OR SUBSTITUTE ANY OF THE ABOVE FOODS. SALT AND PEPPER MAY BE USED, BUT DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SEASONING. DIET IS TO BE USED THREE DAYS AT A TIME.

IN THREE DAYS, YOU SHOULD LOSE 10 POUNDS. AFTER THREE DAYS OF DIETING, YOU CAN EAT YOUR NORMAL FOODS, BUT DO NOT OVER DO IT. AFTER YOUR 4 DAYS OF NORMAL EATING, START BACK ON THE 3 DAY DIET. YOU CAN LOSE UP TO 40 POUNDS IN A MONTH IF YOU STICK TO THIS DIET. IT IS A SAFE DIET.

REMEMBER: DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS!

NOTE: COFFEE OR TEA THE FIRST TWO MEALS OF DAY ONE ONLY. WATER ONLY FROM THEN ON.

Do you know if the results are just specifically water loss or are we actually losing some fat in the make. I know that you said it could be used multiple times in a month. Has anyone done that, and with what results. My birthday is tomorrow, and I am debating if I should try this starting tomorrow or if I should wait until after the big day. I have 3 kids, so I do not think that I will be doing anything too special.

Mammamoosh:  Like I said this was from a man in the military.  I'd imagine to have great results that you need to be very active.  I personally lost five pounds in 2 days and couldn't go on because of hypoglycemic symptoms.  Two of my friends were on it for three days and lost 8 pounds each.  There will be some water weight loss but if you can lose up to 40 pounds in a month there's got to be some fat in there somewhere I'd assume!  LOL  By the Way...HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!!

THANK YOU!

I am using calorie count and talking to my doctor to lose this excess baby weight from having twins 10 months ago. So, I think I'm going to give it a try, hey, we all like to see a drop in the scale RIGHT! I like all the food so why not give it a try. And I did the math, you are actually consuming right around 1200 calories- which for a woman is OKAY!

I'll let you all know if I try and when I do what the results are! Thanks again

Sucessfully ate DAY 1's Breakfast, but becuase of my birthday it slowly changed to a regular day of eating and drinking.

I did have some more questions though.

Egg- Raw or cooked- it specifies Hard Boiled at one point but not at the other

Veggies- Raw or cooked- no specifications

Dairy- Full Fat, Reduced Fat, or Non- Fat?

We are going to start tomorrow- Also I found another one that has cantelope listed as well as 7 oz of meat, and beets

blessedmommy profile image

blessedmommy  says:

Mammamoosh:  If there are no specifications then the choice is yours.  I think that most people I know used reduced fat milk and fried their other egg and ate raw or canned veggies.  Whatever you like should be fine.
 Happy dieting!

Day one down, all I have left to eat is my ICE CREAM.....mmmm....YUMMY. I had to go and buy it because I do not keep it in the house.

I was stuffed after dinner- substituted beets for banana- saw it on another version of 3 day diet and has the same amount of calories - 1/2 banana/ 1c.sliced cooked beets.mmmm

Anyways- the hardest time of day was between 2-4 when I had finsihed lunch and was eagerly awaiting dinner- Thing I have noticed- this is just a really healthy eating plan- maybe it will stick longer than 3 days....who knows...updates to follow!

blessedmommy profile image

blessedmommy  says:

Yeah, Mammamoosh! I'll be watching for the updates.

Mammamoosh  says:

Day one down-

So the scale dropped 2.5 pounds since yesterday- and that was weighing in after breakfast and workout- which you are not supposed to do becuase it increases your weight!

Altered today's menu again- beets instead of banana for dinner- and although it says not to- 10 saltines at lunch instead of 5- Calorie intake for the day would have been slightly too low for a healthy day of eating- still 30cal under 1200 but for one day I think it will be okay.

Another update tomorrow-

Does anyone use caloriecount here?

blessedmommy profile image

blessedmommy  says:

Thanks for the update Mammamoosh. Congratulations on the results!!! I was wondering if you'd share with us things like...how much water are you consuming? How long do you work out and what kind of work out are you doing?

I didn't realize that the calorie count was actually a little low on this diet. Maybe that is why my hypoglycemic symptoms flared up? If it works for you I may try it again with a few alterations to meet my personal needs. Thanks so much for keeping us posted!

Mammamoosh  says:

I drink water all day long- probably in excess of 64oz- I usually consume 2 32 oz bottles of seltzer water, plus a cup of coffee in the am, plus regular cold water thoughout the day- I would say on some days I might come close to a gallon of water. Its hard to remember to drink water- using small containers like a Nalgene Bottle really helps- add lemon juice too...mmm

Working out- actual time probably varies between 15-45 min per day- I switch it up, stationary bike, elliptical, Turbo Jam, running up and down the stairs- Google 10 lbs in 10 days work out...you can find some great routines for at home or in the office. I'll keep you updated, down 3.6 lbs so far.....

Mammamoosh  says:

Beginning of Day 3- weighing in a svelte 4.6lbs lighter- thats even 1 pound less than yesterday afternoon- I love watching the scale decrease all day long even after eating! WAHOO.....

Anyways Svelte defintiely does not describe my body figure at all- this is helping me finally take of my 50lbs of baby weight that I gained from my 11 month old twins- gosh it takes forever for this weight to come off-

They (twins) left me chubby at 214 but with the help of this diet I have already gone down to 209.4- that just what I needed for motivation. So hopefully with the help of this I will beable to get back down to 165 yahooooooo....

I'll be keeping you updated...Now- Whats for breakfast today

Becca  says:

I have already lost 90 pounds over the last 10 months just with portion control and exercising but I have hit a plateau over the last couple weeks. I am heading on vacation in a week and would like to drop a few more before I go (heading to see family that hasn't seen me or even knows I lost weight). I have gone from a size 22 to a 10. Yeah! Do you think that even though I have lost this much already that this plan would work for me now? And also I am fine with everything on the plan other than tuna - is there some kind of substitute that I could do instead?

Mammamoosh  says:

Alright- Todays meal plan is SUPER low in cal. only 800 or so. So I have added a couple extras- probably means I will not lose the 10lbs but Id rather not send my body into starvations mode and 5-7 pounds is fantastic.

Becca- I have found altered food choices for this plan- switch up tuna for cottage cheese- 1c to 1c- You might want to use reduced fat cottage cheese though because tuna is much lower in fat- but calorie wise it is equivalent. You also said that you have been watching portion control- Do you know what you total calorie intake is per day- if it is higher than 1200 than yes, this will work for you- if it is 1200 you will probably see the same results- If you try i- up your exercise and check out http://caloriecount.about.com- it has free calorie counters.

Michelle8588  says:

I use caloriecount too! It's really helpful. The diet has been going okay for me. I started at 131 and now its the 3rd day and I am 129.6 :/ I was hoping it would be more than that seeing that i feel like I am hungry THE WHOLE DAY while on this diet. I don't know I haven't lost at least 1 or 2 more pounds than that...kind of bummed and i want to lose at least 3 to 4 more pounds by Monday!!

Questions: Is it safe to do this more than 3 days and just continue with day 1?

IF i stop the diet on the 4th day like it says i am supposed to, will i gain back everything I've lost?

Can you drink water throughout the day? Because the way i understood it, you drink at the meal, so I have only been getting about 30 oz. of water a day. I am also kind of afraid that i will gain water weight, and I definetly don't want even water weight to be on me for Monday. I need to look AS THIN AS POSSIBLE!!

Anyone have some extra tips to shed those few extra pounds by MOnday???

Thanks!!

Mammamoosh  says:

I drink water ALL DAY with this diet- YOU HAVE TOO or else you will become dehydrated and feel awful- aim fro 1/2 gallon to an entire gallon.

Day 3- I broke the diet at lunch- however I just didn't eat what was on the menu- I had 24oz of a fruit smoothie- pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, and apple with ice- nothing added, and about 1 hand full of homeade french fries- Funny thing- was AWESOME so SWEET and equivalent in calories- So, another hinderance on the 10 in 3 do not alter diet- but healhty is better....DON"T you think?!

mammamoosh  says:

totally blew the diet plan tonight-

had chicken, salad, bread and cheese at moms house- BUT I didn't drink any wine, didn't eat any extra and still stayed at 1300 calories- which is right in there! So, I will weigh in tomorrow and let you all know how the 3 days left me!!!

Iv'e been using this diet for about 3 months now, and i have not committed to it all the time, lol, but, the first time after the 3 days were up i lost 7 lbs!! and i tend to start it again on July, 1th :) so i can lose weight for my sisters wedding, i just need to know one thing. Do you guys reccomend any exercises considering i got no time for work out classes only at home. ??

mammamoosh  says:

So, in all honesty I was only faithful for 2 days- partially 3- But I am happy to say that I am down 5 lbs- Water weight or not- it is what is needed for that extra boost- I'm going to keep my calories low for the next 4 days- between 1300-1400 and then start again. See what it can bring me this time.

I work out at home- things as simple as running up and down the stairs is a good work out- google 10lbs in 10 days exercise routine- it should bring you to an ezine article it is fantastic.

becca  says:

Okay, thanks for the helpful tips. I started the diet yesterday and weighed this morning and even after breakfast - lost 4.4 pounds already. So I am on day #2 and hopefully the success continues. Wasn't even sure this would work after losing 90 pounds already. This may be just what I needed to get off the plateau. Will update with results tomorrow. Thanks! :)

blessedmommy profile image

blessedmommy  says:

OK: Since the diet is said to work on chemical breakdown, those who seem to achieve the best results are those who follow the plan. If the calories are similar, substitutes may be implemented and you may still get great results. However, these results are not guaranteed.

This diet sounds good, I just a few questions. About the grapefruit, I don't like it, can I subsitute anything for it? Also, the tuna and brocolli, anything to subsitute? Another thing, what kind of hot dogs, because there are some that are very high in calories from fat, some are 150 calories from fat-but women should only get 60 calories from fat?

Adriana  says:

Ok, I've read all the comments and I will subsitute the tuna for reduced fat cottage cheese. The grapefruit, I guess I will juice it and drink it slowly, it's just one day and 1/2 of it anyways :), the brocolli, really don't like, anyone have any suggestions to subsitute for it? Besides that, I have a feeling that this diet will go well, doing 1 hour workouts a day, like ahorton all the way on top, that lost 15 pounds-I hope that I can do the same, I will keep you posted, congrats to everyone that lost :)

mammamoosh  says:

Hey everyone!! So, results of this diet- which I did not stick to faithfully- 5 plus pounds...and THE POUNDS HAVE STAYED OFF!! My reluctance of this just being water weight has been rendered unnecessary!! I have been eating like a pig, drinking beer, even ate McDonalds, take out, Ice cream, everything bad and everything good. Not counting calories at all, probably out of this world! And the weight has stayed of for the last, well it looks like 8 days, so tomorrow I am doing it again. If I haven't gained a thing, not even an ounce, eating like I have been I am hoping to see the same results again, if not better! This has helped me break the awful feeling of seeing the same weight- or a loss of a lb for days even weeks! No substitutions needed this week- Oh and on that note- for those of you who do not like the rec. diet exchanges- Broccoli can be cauliflower- Tuna can be cottage cheese- IT IS THE ACID IN THE GRAPEFRUIT THAT MAKES IT WORK!! Even if you do not like it, try to not substitute. Although this is based on "chemical breakdown" if you google 3 day diet- you will get a variety of different renditions on the menu

Adriana  says:

Just started today, I'm eating my breakfast now. Mammamoosh, that's really fantastic that you kept it off, maybe that will work for me! What's the difference between cauliflower and broccoli? I mean, they both look exactly the same except the color. I'm hoping this will work! I'll keep you posted.

Hey I tried this diet... I lost 7.5 lbs in total after the 3 days.. I think that its great for the initial weight loss, but you do have to keep inmind that you need to get at least 1500 calories a day as a women.. otherwise you will gain all the weight back due to the fact that any food that you eat will be converted into fat to gain energy for your body!!! So, try it for the initial weight loss but just go on a healthy diet after. I have found great results with this and a good workout. Lost 13 lbs in 2 weeks and thats pretty much all fat!

blessedmommy  says:

You should drink at least 64 ounces a day of water but if you know how much you weigh, it is better to drink half of your weight in ounces. For example: if someone weighs 200 pounds, they should drink at least 100 ounces of water per day. This helps flush toxins and fats from your system while dieting, but it's good to do even when not dieting.

You are supposed to follow this diet exactly to achieve optimal results because it works by chemical breakdown. However, there have been some make substitutions as long as the same calories were kept and still had good results.

As far as the coffee, you may have it the first day. And as far as the ice cream, regular, plain vanilla is what is supposed to be used. Substitutions should be used at your own discretion and may or may not achieve the best results. (Same with sweetener on grapefruit. You may try ruby red grapefruit, they are naturally sweeter).

1 cup tuna1 cup carrots1 cup cauliflower1 cup melon1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

where as you only have 1 cup tuna, 1/2 banana, 1 cup vanilla ice cream -is the extra 1/2 cup of ice cream and 1/2 banana considered the substitute for the carrots, cauliflower And melon? please advise.

So far doing well. Will update tomorrow.

Two questions:

1) What can I substitute for grapefruit since grapefruit is a bit hard to find here in the Philippines?

2) Do the crackers have to be Saltines? They're also hard to find. Can I substitute them with any plain crackers?

More questions:

Is a grapefruit also known as pomelo or suha? We have plenty of pomelo/suha in the Philippines. :-)

What is the size of an average banana in the diet plan? I think the average banana here in the Philippines is way smaller than the ones in the U.S. so maybe 1/2 "American" banana is equivalent to 1 whole "Philippine" banana? hehe... looking for an excuse to eat more. :-p

If you cheat the diet it is useless. If you cheat you should start over. Sounds impossible but I went from 240 to 168 pounds in 5 weeks 3 days. I went 6 days on (ycling through the days twice) and one day off but only eating a protien and vegetables. After a few cycles I started noticing that the diet was becoming easier, because I was getting full much quicker. Diet works only if you stick to it.

I'm a retired military guy and have seen and used this diet. It really does work but, I just wanted to point out a few things that people should understand.

First, this diet cam from the cardio unit of a hospital. I don't remember which, maybe the mayo clinic. It is intended for th rapid loss of weight prior to surgery. It really is not ment for long term use.

Second, we (military personnel) understood that this diet was to be followed by a nutrition and exercise program to stabilize at your new lower weight.

This diet is a handy tool but must be used sparingly to avoid damage to your body.

Be safe and good luck with your dieting!

Dear confused: Have you followed the diet exactly? Have you been exercising? If so just try to stay off of the scale until the 3 days is up.

And no, this diet is not just for women. It is a military diet so it has actually been used mostly by men. Both genders can use it successfully if it is followed correctly.

I'm going to try this but I wonder if it will work for me because I think I've plateaued as I'm already watching my calories and working out at least 5 days a week and not really seeing results and I need them quick.

We'll see, I'm 5'-1" and 117lbs and am trying to get down to 105lbs which looks better on my short frame. I only have about 12 days to loose 12lbs and have been trying for a month. Maybe the combination of foods and how they metabolize will do something for me, breaking me out of my current dieting regimine...

Zoeyzozo  says:

Glad I found this discussion. Back in college I did the diet---for one week I think. It was several years ago, and i remember I put off like 7 pounds. It was very hard for me to do at the time though because of my crazy schedule and not being able to tote eggs and tuna around with me very easily.

I put on a bunch of weight the last couple years and have had success with atkins....but right now it is hard to do with the holidays. I have already been off and on so much the last couple months I have seen barely any loss. Atkins..it takes several days to get into ketosis and where you start losing weight, and I always seem to put on 5-7 pounds whenever I eat off plan.( most likely water gain though). So, thanksgiving and visiting family...off, back on now...BUT, more family visits this month, christmas etc....it just is not really possible for me to do a steady low carb diet...but something like this where I could be allowed a day or two off here and there sounds appealing.

My problem is...I have a musical audition in about 5 weeks. I weigh like 235 at the moment ( yikes)...I initially had hoped to be like 175-180 by now...has not happened. So, I can't help but be a little scared at ditching my current atkins/ ketosis and trying something new that may or may not work when I have a limited amount of time and desperately need to lose...but then again I will be having to ditch atkins anyway. I have the will power to stick it out, and even add extra days etc...already drink lots of water, and work out ( save right now i need to rest off a foot with tendonitus for a couple days).

Anyone else do it several times in a row and see good results, or have a comparison between it and atkins? I noticed one poster who went from 240 to 168 in 5 weeks doing 6 days on and 1 day off---which made me blink since that is close to what I weigh and is the amount of time that I have. I guess I just am nervous since I am in the mindset of ketosis for weight loss. Now I find myself pondering sticking to atkins until my first holiday visit, or even taking a gamble and trying it sooner. eeeeeeee. Can't decide. It would be easier to just "try it" if I did not have an audition, lol.

Oh. Is it really okay to substitute orange for grapefruit......that is the one thing on the menu I struggle with, especially without some splenda or something on it.

Thank you, I would so appreciate any thoughts or tips---especially from anyone who had good loss sticking to it for a month or more. :)

Zoeyzozo  says:

well, no one has responded, but thought I would update. i decided to go for it and give it a try, especially because i have holiday stuff planned on thurs-fri that would be difficult to do atkins with. dang holidays. today is day two, and my scale was bouncing between one to two pounds down. normally when i re-introduce carbs i go up, so i was surprised to see that after eating bread and fruit. i may be a good person to really test this out on because since i switched to this straight from being in ketosis, i do not have much water weight to lose since low carb naturally does that. my loss may be a bit less because of that, but it will show if this actually does have an affect on more then just water weight.

i find with me and my metabolism i do better eating low cal if i seperate it up and eat every couple hours. i don't get hungry and have less temptation to eat additional foods this way. like, today i ate the cottage cheese, and then the egg and crackers about an hour and a half later. i ate half a banana as an evening snack instead of with dinner (which I have yet to eat).  This may not be exactly how we are supposed to do it, but it is what makes it easier for me to keep to it. I also eat the bread soft instead of toasted, easier for me to eat it that way without anything on it opposed to dry bread. I also poached my egg and put it into the bread this morning for a bit of a sandwhich---and yesterday I did that with my tuna as well at lunch with a little mustard since I read the plan elsewhere saying yellow mustard was okay. I figure as long as it is the same foods prep differences should not make a difference. I can poach an egg in my micro in 45 seconds so that is my prefered way to eat them at the moment.

I am going to do this for four days right now, repeat day one on wed. I then will go two days off, and repeat. I may do it like, go three days on, one day off kind of cycle and see what happens. shake the calories up. anyone else out there with me? I can't seem to find a forum for this on the net.

I would like to comment and say that I have hit a plateau! All I need to do is lose 10lbs. I had my son almost three years ago and i work out like crazy. I am afraid because I keep my calories low anyway and I work out regularly that I will not be able to lose weight on this diet! Any comments or questions??? I am considering starting this diet before I go to vegas saturday! My current weight is 145lbs and I want to be 135lbs. I am 5ft 6in.

loouloou  says:

Hey lovelylove,

I'm in your same boat. Look at my earlier comment above. However, today is day 4, I've finished the 3-day diet and I lost 4lbs and a 1/2" off my thighs. I think I hit a plateau and wasn't sure this would work for me and it did, 4lbs anyway.

This diet was hard for me as I'm used to eating small meals every 3 to 4 hours but I just kept drinking water when I felt hungry or out of energy which helped. On day 3 for dinner, I was famished by 4:00pm so I split up my dinner and ate some then and the rest at 6:00pm so spliting up meals may be ok. I now have 5 or 6 more pounds to lose and am going to take a few days off & exercise & eat normally, then try again to lose the last few pounds.

This may work for you so if your goal is saturday, you could start today. I just hope this weight stays off. I'm just going to be careful to still watch my calories and workout between the diet days.

Amy  says:

I just started this diet and am really excited! My friend SWEARS by it - she lost about 30 pounds in a couple months, and that was with some mild cheating. You can lose up to 40 pounds in 4 weeks, but only if you stick to it exactly. You have to have incredible willpower to do so. But even with cheating, you'll see great results!

And KC - don't leave anything out. Stick to it exactly. I absolutely hate beets, carrots, and cottage cheese, but I'm sucking them down. Each food is in there for a reason - don't take a chance in making substitutions. The only safe substitution I've heard is skipping the ice cream and putting cream in your coffee instead. Otherwise, for best results, stick to it strictly.

Amy  says:

Then again - 3daysdiet.com advises that you can make substitutions as long as the calorie amount is the same. But I've also heard that this is a special combination of foods designed to boost the metabolism, so I don't know. I'm just going to stick to it exactly to be safe.

Actually, I have used this diet several times before and lost weight. Once coupled with regular dancing for 3 months I continued to lose after trying the diet for a month. I believe I lost 50 lbs. because all my clothese were falling off me. I am back on it again as of 2 days ago since I put the weight back on (not fast either) due to stress. At the end of my second day, I saw a weight gain of one pound but I am encouraged and will weight in again in the morning. The one I have includes cantelope, beets, and cauiflower.

This diet definately works! And it is true that the Military uses this diet, because that is how I came into contact with it. I was trying to enlist in the Army but I was over the Max weight for someone my height and age, so my recruiter gave me this diet to try, I lost 8 pounds in 3 days, and i swore in and enlisted in The US Army August 29, 2008. So yes, this is no hoax diet...it really does work and it really is adapted by the military. In fact, the millitary adapted it from heart surgeons who use this diet for their overweight patients who are awaiting surgery, so as to help to ensure that the surgery be more sucessful.

To the "children" that are posting here  (Under 18 years old) listen up:

This 3-day diet was intended for adult bodies. You need to contact your physician (or possibly, you can use a site like WEBMD too and ask someone) about the necessary nutritional value for people your age. It seems a diet like this could do some real harm, I'm not a doctor so I cannot tell you for sure.
And to the wrestler that posted...please be careful with your efforts to make weight each week. If you need to, go up a weight class.

I started this diet today and have just the ice cream left to eat. I followed it exactly except for the grapefruit... as I am an American currently living in China I was not able to find it. I instead had a red pomelo which is very close but larger... I tried to find a small one. Really it was quite good.

I did work out but not to intense as I had to stay home... about 30 cardio mins. Drinking lots of water... and I have actually been very full today. I ate my lunch later in the day so I wouldn't be hungry when it was time to make dinner for the kids.

I lost about 7 lbs on the diet. However, I cheated a little bit. Where is said on the diet to have "1 slice of toast", I was having 2 slices of low fat wheat bread instead of 1 slice of white bread. I also used a little dressing in the tuna, especially on the third night for dinner (it was just way too dry for me!). Also, I drank a small cup of coffee in the morning on all three days (can't give it up!). I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I would wait until a few hours after dinner to have the ice cream (also low fat). I did cardio for an hour the first night of the diet but didn't have time to on day 2 and day 3. I'm going to do the 3 day diet for about a month until a reach my goal weight. The other 4 days of the week I will just eat really healthy and work out atleast 5 times a week. I'll be happy to lose atleast 5lbs a week. I'll try to remember to update again! Good luck to everyone! This does work, just use common sense and self control!!

Hi I am a RN and I have done this diet before. You do lose weight but it's hard to keep it off. My husband is military and he used this diet to cut weight for their weight test. It's more of a jump start not a long term solution. IF you go back to eating the same and not exercising, you gain it back.

cty  says:

I was off the diet for 4 days, ate pretty regular...had some pizza one night, sandwich, etc. the other night, but drank a lot of water and exercised everyday with no problems. got on the scale yesterday and did not gain anything back. if you exercise and change reg. eating habits even just a little you probably won't have any problems keeping the weight off.

so anyway, i'll update tomorrow evening.

1st week on the diet i lost 7 or 8 lbs. i just did it a second time this week but only lost 3 lbs. i guess it's better than nothing. i think i am just going to stick to eating fruits and veggies for a little while, maybe a few weeks before going back on the diet. maybe your metabolism just gets used to the diet and that's why i didn't lose a whole lot the second time. still, 10lbs in a few weeks is pretty good.

Sally:  I don't know, but it's been tried and proven many times!  :-) It's a very moderate amount.

cty  says:

To Sally: Maybe the ice cream just a more "fun" way to get your dairy in the diet. I would say maybe have a small glass of skim or low fat milk in place of the ice cream. Try to follow the diet exactly for the best results. Maybe you could eat a few crackers, and a small glass of milk, or have a piece of light wheat break and a small glass of milk instead of the crackers and cheddar cheese.

The only cheating I did on the diet was, for dinner on the 3rd day, I added some dressing to the tuna (I HATE dry plain tuna fish lol). And also where it said one piece of toast, if I was really hungry, I would eat two slices of low fat wheat bread (only because the diet doesn't specify if you eat white bread or wheat. 2 slices of wheat = 1 slice of white).

I lost 7 lbs the first week. 3 lbs the second week. I didn't do the diet this week, but eating better and working out almost every night.

Good luck...hope you can find results with the diet too!

I am allergic to tuna, but read in one of the comments above that low -calorie cottage cheese may be substituted. Wish me luck!

Ok I am alittle confused because I actually just read another blog similar to this and it was nothing but hate for this diet. And then to see this one full of nothing but love!! LOL I was skeptical that this was just pretty much a starvation diet because of course no matter what you eat you would loose weight but just gain it back in a few days and then you tortured yourself for those three days for nothing.

But after seeing that many people have commented that it is actually 1200 calories or close I started to get a little hopeful. I have 7 weeks before I am going to FL for a friends wedding, and family friends sons high school graduation, which may be graced with the prescence of his brother which I used to date for 3 yrs and thought I was going to marry and am still totally in love with.

I havent seen him in three yrs so of course any of you ladies can understand that this extremely important to me since I have gained about 35 lbs since he has seen me.

I just need to know if this will work or maybe just get some encouragement lol.

Thanks

Ok I started the diet today and honestly whoever said that this was a hoax and was a starvation diet is crazy!! lol now I dont know if it works or if its a hoax but you dont really realize how much you really are required to eat until you eat it. The dinner on this first day, to me was pretty decent size.

So come Monday I will post my results. Although I am kinda skeptical as to how much I will be able to stick to eat. My roommates kids are comming for the week and we go everywhere and eat anything when they are here!! Maybe I should have waited til they left to start.

Oh and I stuck to eat almost exactly today, the only thing I did was eat one more piece of toast (because it was wheat) and used a few of those on the go flavor your water, no sugar sweetened with splenda. Hope that doesnt mess it up any.

I would really like to hear some current results so please dont be shy and start blogging!!

I am on day 3. I have lost 4.2 lbs. so far. I am hoping for at least 2.8 lbs. after this third day. That would make my 3 days so worthwhile! The eating plan wasn't bad, I even stuck to it while we were on the 'road'. I just packed and was prepared. I think the vanilla ice cream at the end of dinner helps you stay focused on eating what is outlined. If I don't lose 10 lbs. (which I had hoped to do), that's okay. This has helped me 'refocus' and boosted my weight loss again. Thanks!

Today I finally began my diet and I feel great. I just got done playing basketball and riding my bike, so hopefully that will help too. I havent substituted anything so pounds you have my permission to fall off! Lol. I will report back on the fourth day in the morning.

I am on day2 and have seemed to have lost just 3 pounds. At least it's something. However, I wonder if it is moving slower than expected because I am allergic to tuna and substituted wit with canned chicken. That is what someone told me was a good substitution. But, now I hear that cottage cheese can be substituted for the tuna. Does anyone have any answers?

LottaBody  says:

My final lost was nearly 7 lbs. I believe that was really great considering I already ate pretty healthy and wanted to 'jump start' and refocus. I will keep a copy of this diet to do again when necessary and share with friends and family. thanks!

Hello,

I have a grad night field trip, a dance, and a big party on and around May 15. I'm like 40 pounds overweight and I want to lose that fat. I'm in school and I can't really bring eggs to school. Also, can I put an extra slice of toast for the tuna and the cheese and make a grilled cheese sandwich? Additionally, for the 5 saltine crackers, can I substitute that for 2 slices of toast? It's better for me to eat a sandwich.

Thanks, Paranoid Girl

P.S. Please respond quickly, I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow and I need to know to geet the things, thanks so so much! =]

I'm so glad you have this posted!!! 2 friends of mine that are in the Army were talking about this diet about 3 or 4 years ago. Now that I've gained about 20 since then I wanted to see if they had it on the net before calling them out of embarassment. I know this is the diet because I remember the grapefruit, hard boiled egg and tuna. Thank you!!!

JaysGirl: The four days off helps to keep your metabolism high and variety in your diet. However, it is wise to continue to eat sensibly and exercise on these "days off". So in reality you don't really quit dieting, you just detour from the above menu. After the four days go back on the menu above. Good luck!

This same diet was given to my by my mother in law and shes been using it for over 25 years to maintain her weight.

I have done it in the past and lost 7 pounds in the 3 days, 7 of 50 pregnancy pounds i gained and im trying to lose. I wasnt exercising at the time and didnt struggle to finish.

This time around i started the diet yesterday and i started working out 3 weeks ago doing 3-5 goodlife intense classes a week. Im on day 2 and have only lost 1 pound... but i also havent lost any weight since starting working out and i know its because muscle weighs more then fat and i could have lost 7 pounds of fat and gained 7 pounds of muscle. So any one that has just started working out doing weight training and now doing this diet, dont plan to lose weight on the scale but you are losing fat and replacing it with muscle. Pay attention to the way your clothes feel not the number you weigh! Stay motivated and dont give up. it can take 8 weeks for weight loss from dieting and exercise to show up on the scale. Keep eating healthy and work out! I have 40 pounds to lose wish me luck.

Starting Weight April 24th:

Woke at 189.8

I increased my portions and ate 5 times, becasue i was simply starving. I have lost so far 54 since i began 6 months on my weightloss journey. I did this diet to help push the scale a bit. I wasn't gaining or losing anything. As if my body became adjusted. I will continue to weigh in the morning, and update if I kept it off, after the 3 days.

DAY 2: Woke up at 177.8. (-2lbs)

Tracey718  says:

Orginal weight was 179.8- So lost 3 pounds.

Cheated miserably. Eat extra servings of just about everything.

DAY 3: Woke at 176 (1.8)

This diet was hard, I enjoy eating, serving sizes were small. I did gr8 for my first try.

Will give it a shot in May again. I got the boost I needed

This is a reply to Ashley... I cannot believe you think that you need to lose weight!! I am 5'0 and weigh 120 with a noticeable belly. You are 5'4 and way 105!!! My god girl, I do not think you need to lose any weight, maybe you should speak with your doctor first to see if he recommends healthy eating. Diets are for people who have weight to lose and I cannot imagine at your age, and weight, and height that you need to lose any!! A safer bet for you, would just be to eat healthier. Cut down on calories and junk food (which you probably don't eat much of anyway) and eat more whole grains, protien, low fat dairy, and lots of veggies and fruit.

I hope you take my message into consideration, there are a lot of girls out there with eating disorders and we don't need you or anyone to be one of them!! Good Luck.

My height is around 1m70 and I weigh 210 lbs but I need to lose 50 lbs at least by the end of july so is this diet gonna work for me? and also is it possible to exercise while on the diet or just finish the diet and then exercise

thank you

I believe this diet may actually work. I'm going back home tomorrow, so after tomorrow, I plan on trying it.

I have a problem though...I'm a vegeterian(lacto-uovo, which means I eat eggs and dairy products), so I was thinking about replacing the meat with soy meat or eggs. What do you think? Will it work?

Thanks!

HOTRED: Glad that you understood "the point" and helped to point it out again. This diet is not "supposed" to be tailored to fit someone. You can either do it or you can't. I still liked to try to help those who couldn't do it exactly...but the results are never guaranteed. This diet is supposed to be followed EXACTLY! There are at least a million other options out there for those who can't do this. I hope they find what works for them.

Hi all. This sounds like a promising diet! I have yoyo'd all of my life do to emotional eating and now weigh 213.5 pounds. So in a nutshell, I need to lose 64lbs by September to get down to 150lbs and then can continue onward to reaching my goal of 135lbs. I am planning on doing 2 3 day cycles and having one rest day until I reach my first my goal. Do you think that this is doable or overly ambitious? My biggest challenge is following through. I am usually great at starting but never very good at following through. This diet has caught my eye due to its regimented structure which I feel many diets that I have tried lacked. There is no guess work involved which I believe will prove useful. All of this to say that I am very excited to start tomorrow and am greatful to have found you all! I do have a question. The dinner menu on days one and two seems a bit dense--can I swap say the 1/2 banana from dinner to lunch? Do you think that this would affect the breakdown that occurs?? I am looking forward to keeping you posted on my weightloss journey and would appreciate any feedback regarding the aformentioned questions. Thank you!

Hello everyone. Well my husband found this diet for me because I have been feeling so depressed lately over my weight. I use to weight 120 and now I weigh 190 (after kids). I am so tired of dieting, however I have started this diet today. I ate my toast, peanut butter, and grapefruit. It was good. I like the foods because they are not bland. I will post my weight loss, if any, on the third day. I am not going to substitute anything. We will see :)

Just finished my 1st 3 days. Lost 3.5 lbs. but I am very happy with that. For the last year I have tried everything from WW, (which s a good diet) to diet pills (very Bad) and not seen the scale move. So seeing a lose was awesome, I did not follow it exactly, I broke some of the food up and I also on my third night had more ice cream. So I will stick to this. I will take a few days off and than I will start again. This time I will follow it to a tee. Didn’t realize I shouldn’t have diet soda so will also cut that out. I will hope to post at the end of the next 3 days with my results

_tubblez_  says:

Dont like grapefruits, cant stand the taste...does it make a big difference if I chose an orange instead?

Rebecca  says:

You can substitute a grapefruit for an orange.

I am now on my second cycle of this diet. I originally weighed 196 and went down to 189 on the third day. On my four days off I gained 3 pounds bringing me to 192. I am now on my second day of the diet again and am down to 190, so I can clearly see that this diet could be very effective if used continuously. You will lose 6-10 lbs in the three days and gain 1-3 pounds back on your days off, so you still have a weight loss of around 3-4 pounds a week.

_Tubblez_  says:

is it really that easy? and you havent experianced any issues at all with this diet?

Rebecca  says:

No issues except I do get hungry between breakfast and lunch. Also I try to eat dinner around 6 or 7 because I snack at night, and if I eat closer to bedtime I won't want to snack because I'll feel full or satisfied. I have more energy and I because I can have salt, pepper, and the food s not bland, I haven't experienced weakness. I'm going to stay on this diet for a whole month and see what results I get. It says you can lose 40lbs in a month, but if I only lose 20 or 30lbs I will be so happy because it is almost effortless! Good luck and I will keep posting updates. I am now at 186:)

P.S. On your days off DON'T overdue t because the weight will come back on. I only ate when was hungry but when I did eat it was what I wanted...For example: cheeseburger, pizza, chef salads, fried chicken, cereal. etc.
