Weight Watchers is one of the most popular and recommended diets that has proven to be successful and has helped millions of people worldwide to lose weight and change their eating habits. Weight Watchers began in the 1960s and its still going strong today because their unique approach helps members change their behaviour towards food by following a weight loss plan that is healthy and fits in with all types of life styles. It gives you the freedom of eating what you want by controlling your portion sizes.

Years ago before I discovered exercise I followed the weight watchers diet to help me lose ½ stone. My friend at work had lost 4 stone by going to weight watchers meetings but as I only wanted to lose ½ a stone I didn’t feel it necessary to sign up for the meetings My friend purchased the weightwatchers books for me and I just followed their plan and used their point scheme to help me work out what foods I should eat. I cut out my usual 4 slices of toast with butter for breakfast and had bran flakes instead and for my lunch I stopped eating chips and take away food and had tuna salads. I packed my lunchbox with chopped cucumber and tomato and lettuce and mixed it with tuna and a little mayo and for my tea I would grill a chicken a breast and eat it on a bed of lettuce or vegetables.

I drank 2 litres of water a day, swam 4 times a week for 30 minutes and two months later I was back to my slim self. I’d started to get podgy around my bum and waist because I’d gradually fallen into a lazy unhealthy lifestyle. Fortunately I’d put a stop to this before I’d put on too much weight and once I’d got my weight watchers books I was back on track.

My problem is that I love naughty foods. I love crisps and chocolate and fish and chips. I also like to have a few drinks on a weekend. As soon as I was slim and had lost my excess weight I decided to be naughty on a weekend (within reason) and be good during the week. Monday to Friday I followed Weight Watchers and their point system and on a weekend I just ate what I wanted. This kept my weight off. I only recommend doing that when you have reached your desired weight.

There are lots of great success stories with Weight Watchers mainly because the people that run the company have all been overweight themselves. They are there to guide and support you. There are 6000 meetings held each week all over the UK and the leaders of these meetings have all successfully lost weight with weight watchers.

The Weight Watchers website is full of information and you can find out if there is a meeting near you or you can join online. When you join online you have access to interactive tools to assist you with your eating plan, plus there are lots of helpful ideas, recipes and fitness videos
