Can Exercise Be Fun?
First of all, it’s important, I think, to understand the most common barrier to why people are unable to lose the pounds. I think it basically comes down to their own laziness or lack of a work ethic. I don’t mean to be hard about this at all, but maybe you can see how this is true from your own experience. As humans we just absolutely hate to change our behavior in any sort of a way, especially an uncomfortable one. In fact, all forced behavior changes usually feel a bit unnatural and quite unpleasant over time. Thus we most often just go back to our old eating habits, our own lack of exercise, etc. The reason that losing weight with Wii Fit is a possible solution to this is precisely because it feels just like playing a game for fun. The geniuses at Nintendo have seen how the addictive and pleasurable side of gaming could be leveraged in order to bypass people’s usual barriers to adopting a new and healthy form of lifestyle. This is why I think the Wii Fit is the perfect thing for people who have failed with other dieting and exercise regimes. Hey, you might as well give it a try, right? What is there to lose? A couple hundred bucks is all. It’s basically just a one time expense versus all the other methods which entail monthly gym memberships or constantly going back to the health food store to buy new diet pills.

Fun For All Ages
So let’s go more into the fun aspect of the Nintendo Wii Fit. I mentioned that even in many senior centers and “old folks’ homes” this “video game” has actually made a lot of inroads. This is quite frankly unprecedented and is why I think the Wii Fit (as well as other Wii products) represent an entirely new horizon or evolution of video gaming. It is truly the next generation. What was once just a sickly addictive pastime at worst has new been reborn or resurrected as a 21st century play field of new solutions and healthiness. If grandma likes it, you know something is up! The fact is the Wii Fit is tapping into something basically human, which knows no boundaries of age, and that is that people actually do like to move their bodies when they can get some sort of a feedback or feel like they are competing and accomplishing something (even if it is merely on a television screen, in a digital landscape). This is why people of all ages are losing weight with Wii Fit.

Childhood Obesity
But don’t get the idea that this new platform is just for adults. In fact it is just as popular (and probably more so) with kids. And who do we keep hearing news stories about with their obesity and lack of parental supervision? It’s kids. I believe that in time (actually, it’s already happening), the Wii Fit will be used in schools everywhere, possibly as a replacement or supplement to gym class, in order to provide a new motivation for otherwise overweight children to actually get in shape. This all bodes very well for the future of our children as we enter into this new era. Who would’ve thought video game companies like Nintendo could actually provide a solution to the growing problem of childhood obesity? I am not aware of anyone who made such a prediction.

It's Lots of Fun
So keep these positive points in mind as you consider adopting the Wii into your life. Losing weight with Wii Fit has already shown itself to be more than a bit possible. Are their scientific studies out documenting this yet? I don’t know. But there certainly are studies that show the correlation of exercising and moving your body on a regular basis with a healthier weight and fitness overall. If it takes a video game platform to finally bring this out in someone then so be it. It’s not really the means that matter, it’s the end goal of health and well-being. Take if from someone who loves to play on her Wii. It is so much fun that you don't even realize that you have been exercising until the next day but you have to do it again because it was fun.

You can sit and bowl using the Wii Sports? I have to stand up, move furniture, etc. LOL. Same with the tennis game on the Wii Sports. I may have to try sitting down to bowl...hmmmm Thanks for your comment.
