Losing Weight the Healthy Way by First Renewing the Mind
65
First Things First
Now that clinical research has revealed that an astonishing 60-70% of any weight loss success depends on the unseen root cause, it seems reasonable to me to begin a weight loss program with the most important ingredient for success by first making permanent changes on the inside so the root causes of why we eat too much or don’t exercise enough is identified and corrected. Eliminating behaviors and renewing the mind with healthy beliefs and attitudes will set us up for a win win situation when it comes time for the second step in losing weight the healthy way and that is to eat the right foods in the right amounts (which is approximately 20-25% of weight loss success) and then getting the appropriate exercise (10-15% of weight loss success). Renewing the mind will help us come face to face with our own reality and not the way of our culture with steady degeneration of health, personal, and moral values. We need to understand our own root causes and why we are where we are, what beliefs and attitudes we hold that keep us consistently failing 96% of the time at our weight loss efforts only to regain 95% of our weight back and then some. We need to make the necessary changes first and that is within our own minds.
The Top 10 Ways Americans "Try" to Lose Weight
1. diets
2. count calories
3. take pills to speed up metabolism
4. take diet drugs
5. eat low-calorie foods
6. self-denial
7. buy gym memberships
8. use exercise equipment
9. buy specialty foods
10. surgically remove weight
All 10 of these ways are focused on something physical and we now know from scientific studies and biblical revelations that the root cause is not physical but from our own self destructive underlying beliefs. Our beliefs determine our behaviors and our weight. Most of our self-destructive beliefs operate at an unconscious level so we need to learn how to expose them by way of renewing the mind. One researcher explained the problem this way: “trying to lose weight through diet and exercise is like trying to get rid of dandelions with a lawn mower. You may get temporary results but until you solve the problem at its root, it just keeps coming back”. This is a good example of why we need to renew the mind for losing weight the healthy way so we can get to the problem at the deepest level where it matters most. The symptoms of our weight problems are showing up in our stomach, butt, and thighs but in eliminating the symptoms and not the underlying root cause we will continue to fail at permanent weight loss like 96% of Americans who keep failing time and time again. When will we learn!
A Biblical Approach to Permanently Losing Weight The Healthy Way
In the bible it says to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well…(Matthew 6:33). Jesus himself told us this because he knew the real solutions to our worldly problems were not found in the physical but in the non-physical realm or at the subconscious level. And so it is within our own minds whether our success or failure in losing weight the healthy way will ultimately be determined.
In the success program called “Weight Loss God’s Way”, Dr. Frank B. Smoot says that we need to understand that the beliefs and attitudes we picked up so long ago from the world are the true source of our weight problems right now and that our weight problem will continue to be a problem until we can identify and replace our self-sabotaging beliefs”. He has written and explains that “we were born to win but programmed to fail” and that we were created by God to do good works on this earth which were laid out in advance (see Ephesians 2:10-16). But since the first day we got here, the world has been conspiring to keep us from discovering our true purpose, and from claiming and enjoying the vibrant spirit, the peaceful mind, and the healthy body God intended us to have. Dr. Frank tells us that our job is to literally renew our mind for losing weight the healthy way – first by letting go of the worldly notion that our weight problem is a physical problem with a physical solution – then by getting rid of the unhealthy, self-sabotaging beliefs and attitudes that are the real root cause of our unhealthy behaviors. He explains in his program that “it is not what we eat but what is eating us”. This is exactly why I have chosen to do the “Weight Loss God’s Way” success program by Dr. Frank B. Smoot. His approach for losing weight the healthy way by first renewing our minds makes way too much sense for me to ignore any longer.
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

Thanks for your comment Lissie. I grew up in a household of 6 confirmed atheiests but for some reason life took me down a different road. You made an interesting point about how you kept your weight off all year. Research has revealed depending upon your "self-sabotaging beliefs" or your "healthy thinking" in these four areas will make or break your weight loss success. 1. thoughts/beliefs about what you can and can't do in life. 2. thoughts/beliefs about your appearance and your physical self-image. 3. thoughts/beliefs about your self-esteem and what you (really) deserve in life. 4. thoughts/beliefs about who (or what) is "responsible" (or to blame) for your weight problem and for your past weight loss failures. Great tips, it is easy to follow, just need commitment from the person. Also drinking lots of water throughout the day helps a lot, reduces craving. I also agree worries also compounds the problem.
Thanks cgull8m for your comments. I agree that one must first commit, a key to any successful endeavor. Water too like you say reduces cravings. Water also in your system is important because it regulates body temperature, converts food into energy and protects vital organs.
"It is not what we eat but what is eating us” --- this line that you wrote struck me. Yes, we do have to exercise and watch what we are eating and count all the calories but you are right. We do need to go deeper and find out what's really going on inside our minds and hearts.
Do you know I used to be really thin? I thought being thin was ugly because my mom kept saying it was. In the end, I decided to be the weight that was comfortable for me. :-) Great hub.
Thanks Ripplemaker for commenting (I love your name "Ripplemaker", that's a cool name!). I believe that body, mind, and spirit work together. When one is not healthy then the others are not working at full capacity.
Hi Dottie, I think you're a soulmate! I gained 8 pounds after a boyfriend break up and can't seem to lose them. I am very spiritual/metaphysical and decided to try that approach just today and came across your article. I have all the Abraham Books so will go back to that to get some stimulation on the subject. I always keep my weight in check, so know this is a mental/emotional problem that I need to cure from that angle.

Hi Violet's View... I'm glad you found this hub and hopefully will be the start to fixing the innermost problem.
I lost 25 lbs. using the weight loss gods way program and also have broken a 30+ year addiction to cigarettes using the same principles that this program offers. I feel ten years younger than I did last year. Best of Luck to you :)
Dottie--I remember reading years and years ago a book (title and author have long-since departed my shrinking brain) about using Biblical principles to help keep the motivation to eat healthily and lose weight strong. I've since moved on to a less-Biblically-based stage in my life, but I remember those principles being solidly thought out and presented. I congratulate anyone who can fine something (or, SOMEONE?) who can help them keep focused and committed. Seems you've done exactly that.
Nice work. And great advice on how to get your head straight before (or even during) a protracted weight-loss program.

Thanks Bill, I just happened to stumble across this program. I was at clickbank checking some affiliates and that program caught my eye but it was not an affiliate that I was looking for that particular day. I did check it out and signed up for an email which I read every week for four months. It really started sinking in and I felt I had nothing at that point to lose and I was right. It feels really good to be growing younger! Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your comments. ~Dottie~ :)
This all makes perfect sense as overweight is due to habitual behaviors and changing those behaviors has got to come from inside the mind, a new way of thinking.
Thanks Dolores for stopping by. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Well I'm a confirmed atheiest but finding what I want to do instead of working in a job I hated has kept the weight off all year so far!
