Lost in the Forest

I got lost once. I was outside of my home taking pictures of a deer that I saw standing on the ridge behind me. The deer bolted away into the forest. I should have turned around and went back home, but I followed the deer instead.

Somehow when the deer bolted away, I got confused as to what direction I was going in. I kept walking and kept walking. It was the middle of the day so it wasn't too cold outside. I do remember that there was snow on the ground in places. I believe it was in May.

Luckily for me I knew that there was a road in behind where I was so I knew that I would hit the road eventually. It took about an hour but I did hit that road. I was so glad too. I was starting to get pretty worried but then like I said, I knew there was a road there.

If there was no road back up in there, I wouldn't have been so lucky. It would have been a lot harder for me to find my way out. I learned my lesson, the hard way, about just wandering off in the bush, even though the bush was my own backyard.

As for that deer, I never saw the deer again after it bolted away so I never even got the chance to get some pictures of it.

I felt so foolish after that incident because I knew better. I knew not to run off after that deer. What I learned from that experience was to never just wander off into the forest even if it was my backyard. From that time on, I would only walk as far as I could see the house or another fixed object. Just before the house or other fixed object were just out of my sights, then I know I have gone too far and it was time to go back. I also learned to never run off after any kind of animal just to take a picture.
