Losing your iPhone can be scary and stressful, especially if you store financial sensitive information & passwords on your iPhone. MobileMe has recently launched a new feature called Find My iPhone that aims to protect your personal information and privacy while helping to recover a lost iPhone or iPod touch.

Find My iPhone works when you subscribe to popular MobileMe app with a small fee.In the event your phone is lost or misplace. Just login to Me.com from any computer to access “Find My iPhone” and the location of your iPhone will appear on Google Map with street view.

You can send an alert that will be displayed on your iPhone or play a sound on your lost iPhone even if the iPhone is set to silent.

Phone loss could be very common nowadays. However, with a little help from MobileMe and GPS technology is certainly living up to its word as a handy app that allows you to retrieve your stolen iPhone & bringing thieves to justice just like the case happened in Shadyside, PA. A victim was robbed by few individuals who demanded his iPhone and wallet. After escaping unharmed, the victim contacted the police and his bank to stop his credit cards before login MobileMe account to locate his iPhone. The suspects were found at a local Wal-Mart trying to purchase goods with the stolen Credit cards.

A further phone call to police by the victim leads them straight to the robbers who were eventually arrested at a gas station. All three men are being charged with access device fraud, conspiracy, receiving stolen property and possessing instruments of crime; two out of three also face a robbery charge.

Remote Wipe

What's more, the feature comes with Remote Wipe. In worst case scenario, you can initiate a remote wipe to permanently wipe out your sensitive personal data and restore it to its factory setting. If you eventually find your iPhone, you can restore your email, contacts, and calendars by enabling your MobileMe account on your iPhone. Or connect your iPhone to your computer and use iTunes to restore the data from your most recent iPhone backup. Hopefully, most users will subscribe to MobileMe and never have to use Find My iPhone feature.

If you want to increase the chances of your iPhone being found if lost, I would suggest subscripting it. MobileMe comes with many other great applications if you use all the features. Mail, contacts, calendar, gallery and iDisk are those that work with my native applications I use everyday.

It does not do any one the great but it does most of them well. Check out each of the feature before you buy. Apple charge higher price compare to Amazon if you notice that. I picked mine up on Amazon and I received it in 2 days.
