Lotion bars are a soap like bar that is a compressed moisturizing lotion, which is rubbed directly onto the skin without water. They can be used for many purposes, used any where, and the best of all, you can make them using cheap and useful natural constituents at your home.
To make the lotion bars, microwave the ingredients on high 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the wax is melted, or by using the double boiler method, beat with a whisk until it gets creamy, add the essential oils and beat again to mix very thoroughly.
Basic Lotion Bar
1 part Beeswax
3 part Cocoa butter
3 part Vegetable oil (Olive, sweet Almond, Jojoba, etc.)
Essential Oil (1 TSP until you adjust)
Melt beeswax and cocoa butter together in top of double boiler (or microwave as explained above). When melted, add the chosen vegetable oil and stir until completely mixed. Stir until mixture cools slightly before adding essential oils. Pour into molds and let harden.
Using massage oils in preparation enables you to use the bar for massage.
Lip Balm
5 g (1 teaspoon) Olive oil
15 g Jojoba oil
15 g Sweet almond oil
20 g Beeswax pellets
5 drops liquid stevia (increase or decrease depending on your taste)
20 drops flavor oil (according to your preferences)
Melt beeswax, add other oils and stir until all are melted. If solidified reheat over a low heat. Add the stevia and flavor oils and pour into pots or tubes. This is a firm balm that works great in the tubes.
Lip and Skin Butter
190 ml Apricot Oil
35.5 ml (about 7 TSP) Beeswax (finely chopped)
1 TSP Anhydrous Lanolin
5 drops of a safe non phototoxic Essential Oil of your preference
3/4 TSP Glycerin
Over low heat, dissolve the lanolin in the apricot oil, add the glycerin and stir until all three are dispersed. Add beeswax, stirring until just melted, add the essential oil, and pour the salve into containers. Do not let the lanolin and glycerin to separate by stirring the pot frequently, and pouring as quickly as reasonable.
Delight Lotion Bar
3 oz beeswax (grated)
2 oz Shea butter, or Cocoa butter
4 oz Olive oil
1 oz dried Rose petals (or Lavender)
Make the bar as usual and add the powdered petals while stirring. you may also substitute the petals with the same weight of cocoa. Use this bar for your lips, hands, elbow, heels, anywhere.
Rich People Lotion Bar
4TBS Beeswax
3oz Cocoa butter
2oz Shea butter
2TBS Mango butter
3oz Sweet Almond oil
3oz Emu oil
5TBS Cornstarch
After melting the wax and butters with oil, add the starch gradually and stir to avoid bad consistency, reheat if needed but on a slow heat. It is very rich with beneficial ingredients, but it costs more money.
Cold & Flu Lotion Bar
1 TBS Beeswax
1 TBS Cocoa Butter
1 TBS Coconut Oil
1/2 TSP of Vicks Vapor Rub
5 drops of Sage oil
If you can not obtain coconut oil, then substitute it with apricot or Almond oil.
Start by melting the ingredients together using a double boiler method. Once all the ingredients are melted, add the vapor rub and stir through. Pour the mix into suitable molds (preferably square and basic for ease).
Headache Relief Pots
2 TBS (30 g) Beeswax
3 TBS (45 g) Shea Butter
4 TBS (60 g) Olive Oil
10 drops of Lavender essential oil
10 drops of Majoram essential oil
5 drops of Basil oil
Lip Balm containers or small jars
These Pots are great for traveling or keeping in your purse for those sudden headaches.
If you can not get Shea butter, then substitute the 3 TBS of Shea butter with 1 extra TBS of beeswax and 2 TBS of either Almond oil, Apricot oil, or use Olive Oil.
Start by melting the beeswax and Shea Butter down in a double boiler method. Once the bees wax is melted add all the oils together including the Essential oils.
Now add the mixture to small lip balm pots or miniature jam jars.
This recipe makes 130 g of solid Headache relief balm.
How to use: Apply to your temples and take deep breaths
Sports Massage Bar
1/2 cup melted cocoa butter
1 Tbs of Wheat Germ oil
1 Tbs melted coconut oil
10 drops of Peppermint Essential oil
5 drops of Eucalyptus oil
5 drops of Wintergreen oil
5 drops of Cinnamon oil
