I AM FUMING.

I have just had a call from a friend of mine who says he has just received an email from our Lottery Syndicate saying he has won a prize.

Now he receives e-mails every week from our syndicate informing him of the Lottery results so he knows by the format of this e-mail that it has obviously come from someone not related to our Official Lottery Syndicate.

Below is a transcript of this e-mail.

ATT: WINNING NOTIFICATION/FINAL NOTICE VWD INTERNATIONAL LOTTERY SYNDICATE .

Sir/Madam

We are pleased to inform you of the result of the Lottery Winners Club International program held on the 8th of june 2007,organised by the above named body.

Your e-mail address attached to ticket number: 5051243-1 with serial number: 175-97972 drew lucky number; 6-68-57-32-2, which consequently won in the 2nd category.

You have therefore been approved for a lump sum pay- out of: £250,000.00 (Two Hundred and fifty thousand GB Pounds Sterling) CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Also note that due to mix up of some numbers and names, we ask that you keep your winning information very confidential till your claim has been processed and your prize/money remitted to you. This is part of our security protocol to avoid double claiming and unwarranted abuse of this program by some participants.

All participants were selected through a computer hi-tech ballot software drawn from over 20,000,000 companies and 30,000,000 individual e-mail addresses from all over the world.

To file for your claim, please contact our/your fiducial agent

Congratulations once more!

Sincerely Yours

(details removed)

NOTE:that all claims not processed before the 30th of june,2007 stands forfeited!!!

Unfortunately the LOWLIFE SCUM that send out these type of e-mails are not only damaging the reputations of honest legitimate companies/individuals, they are also STEALING MONEY from people who are taken in by their lies.

What to do if you receive an e-mail like this?

Don't be fooled!

You cannot win a lottery if you haven't entered it before the draw!

Do not reply to the e-mail, if you do your e-mail address will more than likely be passed between the scammers and you will be a constant target of this scum.

Please note, the scammers are getting clever and hiding behind the names of genuine organisations like VWD and the UK Lotteries Council.

Before you DELETE THE E-MAIL it would help if you forward it to the government bodies listed here.

This is the UK based Lotteries Council who regulate and licence all legitimate UK based lotteries, of which our Syndicate is a member. www.lotteriescouncil.org.uk.

The Office of Fair Trading. http://www.oft.gov.uk

Both of these Government Institutions will be delighted to receive any information regarding these cheats, and will be pleased to offer any help and advice you need, so please dont allow yourself to be a victim of these scammers.

Below are screen shots captured from my e-mail showing what a genuine VWD E-Lottery e-mail looks like.

Be Lucky.

As I mentioned in my related hub,(Playing Cat And Mouse...)the problem is that the authorities aren't of much help. When I nearly captured at least one fraudster for them, they said they were not allowed by the law to do what could have sort of closed the deal(e.g actually locate the criminal)Gorgeous laws!
