Love is never having to clean the toilet...

The perfect Valentine's Day gift
No one likes to scrub a toilet. If they say they do, they're lying. It's just not possible to enjoy toilet cleaning as a hobby. That's why it's so refreshing with your significant other does it for you. Some would go so far as to call it euphoric! Personally I'm a happy gal when my husband cleans the porcelain throne and follows it up with some dish washing and vacuuming.
If I could have anything I wanted for Valentine's Day it would be a clean house that I didn't actually clean myself.
Okay, I'm lying; I'd rather have a trip to some tropical island where a waiter named Julio brings me rum drinks all day long. But seeing as how that's not in the budget this year, I'm happy with some folded laundry and a mopped floor.
Cleaning is traditionally women's work. Of course this was because way back when we stayed home with the kids while the men folk worked and hunted. Over time women have taken their places in the working world, but the cleaning detail has followed us.
I'm sure there are husbands who help out around the house. My own husband is great at laundry. But just once I'd like him to volunteer to clean the bathroom. He is after all the one who makes the toilet gross.
So I've composed my own wish list for Valentine's Day (though I think it's safe to say it could be a year round wish list) and I know that others women would appreciate it. Men, take note and maybe pick one or two things off the list to make your lady feel special.
- Clean the toilet - and I mean clean it, don't just scrub around the inside of the bowl with the scrubber. You need to wipe down the outside of the bowl and clean off the seat. Might not hurt to check the wall next to the toilet for splashes...
- Clean the stove top. This includes taking the burners out and scrubbing down underneath them. You've got to get in there and dig out the macaroni and cheese that fell under them last week.
- Fluff the pillows on the couch and fold the throw blanket. This is the easiest task and has a huge affect on a room. It makes a place look tidy and neat in a few seconds.
- Mop the bathroom and kitchen floor. Nothing says "Honey I love you" like a shiny floor.
- Cook dinner. It doesn't have to be fancy, but you get bonus points for providing more then just a slab of meat. Think pork chops, asparagus and a baked potato.
- Wash the sheets and put in an extra fabric softener sheet when you dry them. Everyone loves a soft, clean bed. The double fabric softener sheet gives them that extra little touch. Oh and you need to put the sheets on after washing, don't just leave them in the dryer. A bed does not make itself.
- Give the dog a bath. Yes I know she's my dog, but you love her too and we both love her more when she smells good.
- Open a bottle of wine when I get home after work. Have a glass filled and ready for me. Nothing takes the edge off a day like a glass of wine that is a complete surprise. Extra bonus points to you if you don't finish the bottle yourself.
- Change the burnt out light bulbs. You're taller then me. It's so much easier for you to reach them.
- Pick up the dirty laundry. Even if it's not yours, pick it up and put it in the hamper. And if you're feeling extra nice, start a load of laundry while you're at it!
