Love or Lust _ Which is Lasting? Easy question to answer one would think unless you are involved in a relationshp and can not decide the difference between the two. An easy solution would be to define the two words and then to think how you feel when you are with that person.

Love is the emotional attraction to another person who fulfills your dreams of what you want out of a person. The emotional attraction is strong and can very easily be called lust. The old adage is that a person in love see stars and symbols of excitement with the first kiss and thereafter. But would not one say that the feeling of excitement is in fact lust because of the physical side of the strong feeling for the other person?

The brings the discussion to the meaning of lust. Lust is the strong physical attraction to the other person that is usually consummated with intimate touching. Lust is a strong feeling but touching has to be involved for the real meaning of the word to surface. President Carter was once accused of lusting after a woman just for looking at her in that certain way. He apologized for the lusting and the public thought nothing else of it. Looking longingly at a woman with lust  is the biblical definition of lust but the everyday living definition of the word lust means that some touching must be going on.

Now to the second part of the question that should be easy to answer now that the differences between love and lust have been explained. The lasting of love and lust is of course the strong emotional feeling of love. Love endureth all and love conquers all. Lust will last for a season but love last forever. Love last longer between two couples than lust because people change. They get older and sometimes less attractive which is a major element of lusting after someone. Couples grow apart sexually and sometimes still keep a strong common bond that is often called love. When love leaves these couples, more often than not the relationship is over.

Love is the lasting emotion and is a strong emotion of being able to surrender all of your feelings of love to that one special person. A bit of lust into one of these loving relationships is the right formula for maybe that much sought after lasting relationship.
