In the US, and now in parts of the rest of the world, the food we eat is causing an epidemic of obesity and diabetes that could be counteracted with low carb diets. Our bodies were not designed to function on the amount of simple carbohydrates that are available to the average person today. It is showing in our dramatic rise in wieght gain. One woman from Los Angeles said the other day that going to the middle parts shows you how many people are little houses. By this she meant that people are getting so huge because of being fat that they look like houses.
It used to be rare for someone to actually weight over 300 pounds. Now that is a common wieght. The average person has gained in height over the last 50 years but the majority of the increase is do to fat. People are consuming so many simple carbohydrates that they just pack on more pounds every month. This in turn makes it harder to get around so they tend to sit a lot and thus eat even more. It is a terrible downward spiral.
One diet method that really helps in both weight loss and diabetes prevention is to eat meals that don't contain these simple carbohydrates. This means cutting out sugar, high fructose corm syrup, processed grains, and white rice. Eating these foods is like eating the perfect fat building diet. There is very little nutritional value since they are been so highly processed and the carbohydrates can be digested so fast that you receive a massive increase in blood sugar which stresses your system and causes it to store more fat.
Eating foods that make up low carb meals can counteract the weight gain caused by eating all these simple carbs. This means starying away from sugar, sweeteners, bread, potatoes, rice, and corn. The worst of these as far as simple carbs go is white sugar, white bread, and high fructose corn syrup. These are packed with extra calories and give almost no nutritional value in return.
Eating meals with lots of vegetables, meats, and some fruits will give you nutritional value without the spike in blood sugar that is caused by the simple carbohydrates. Fruit does contain fructose which is a natural sweetener but, except for diabetics, that is out weighed by the nutrional value that is found in fruit.

Eating Low Carb At Parties
Going to a party can really throw off you low carb diet plan. You really have to be aware of what you are eating because most foods that are traditional party fare are loaded with carbohydrates. Luckily, the majority of people will offer a veggie tray along with all the unhealthy fair. This is where you should concentrate the majority of your eating from. Stay away from chips and crackers and breads. These are loaded with carbs and calories.
You can usually eat meats as long as they are not breaded. The best thing is if you can go to a bar-b-que. There is usually a prepared meat or two you can have along with the fixings for a hamburger. Then load up on the vegetables from the veggie tray and for desert choose from the fruit tray that is usually provided.
This makes a great low carb meal and you can be very satisfied.
Plan Ahead
When I get into trouble with eating high carb foods it is usually because I am put into a situation I am not prepared for. You need to alway be on your guard about what foods you will put in your mouth. To accomplish this you must plan ahead when going to a pary or function. Think about what foods might be there that are not good for you and visualize yourself choosing healthy fare instead.
By planning ahead I can work on my will power before I need it and this seems to make it stronger.
