The low carb fad is still going strong.  And the only evidence I need to prove that is the fact that people are buying low carb vitamins.

Please...don’t get me wrong, the low carb craze does have some merit.  But, low carb vitamins don’t.

I came to this conclusion when searching around on the net the other day and came across a couple of sites touting low carb vitamins.  Being a scientist at heart, I decided to see what was so ‘low carb’ about vitamins.

Particularly since vitamins and carbs don’t really go hand in hand.

Well, as is often the case on the net, that low carb vitamins don’t really exist…and…the two terms were joined so that somebody searching for low carb would find the page and then click on their affiliate link to go buy some vitamins.

Vitamins that are just everyday normal vitamins…not ‘low carb’ vitamins


So, if you are truly searching for low carb vitamins: stop wasting your precious time.  They don’t exist.  It’s simply another way for unscrupulous websites to separate you from your money.

Vitamins are generally vitamins and this only proves that.  Anyone who tells you that there is such thing as a low carb vitamin is probably looking for your credit card number.

However, this leads to another discussion...

Will a low carb diet make you deficient in vitamins?


Yes and No.

If, for example, you are following the Atkins Diet, particularly in the earlier stages of the diet…yes…you can become deficient in vitamins and minerals. 

I have never followed the diet myself, but I have been told by others that have that vegetables are pretty much outlawed for the first month or so.  Not good in my opinion.

However, I do agree with the theory of cutting back on bad carbs (breads, processed foods, etc.).  I agree with eating naturally and selecting foods that will minimize the impact on insulin spikes…the real weight gain and aging hormone.

So…in short…any ‘fad’ diet is bad and can cause vitamin deficiencies.  That is why you should forget ‘diets’ and instead focus on eating styles that are congruent with the way your body works.

Namely...

Eat naturally


If it is processed, it’s not good for your body and it will be harder for your body to assimilate nutrients and to even digest the food.  This pretty much limits you to perishable foods.

Meats, fish, poultry, eggs (the whole egg), vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, butter, raw milk (hard to find), cheeses and yogurt.

You’ll notice that this list doesn’t worry about ‘fats’.  And for good reason.  Fats don’t make people fat.  If you need any evidence of this look to the work of Dr. Weston A Price and the tribes that he spent time with in the 1930’s.

Not only were they some of the healthiest people he had encountered in his life

Their diets were the opposite of what we consume today


Secondly, I can use myself as an example.

I’m 6’1” tall and weight about 185 to 190 pounds.  My diet pretty much follows the list I gave you above and I am not only leaner than most other people I know…I’m healthier.

As my coworkers gulp down processed soups and ready-made microwave meals for lunch I’m eating naturally, staying satisfied and maintaining a very comfortable and lean weight.

It doesn’t take any ‘point counting’ or any other silly fad diet tricks or techniques.  What is does take is a little bit of willpower in the beginning.  But once you go down this road you’ll never go back.

Case in point:  last night my wife made a bean and meat dip accompanied by tortilla chips.  Although we weren’t excited about this meal, we decided because of a lack of time to just try it and ‘cheat’ a little.  Other than the meat, these are foods which my body is no longer accustomed to.

The result?  Last night...

Stomach cramps, gas, nausea and sluggishness


I could go on and on about the benefits of eating naturally and staying active.  And in all honesty, I may be wasting my breath because I am not saying anything that hasn’t been repeated before. 

But people want to think that quick cures exist.  They want to think that if they are on the newest low carb fad diet that low carb vitamins are going to somehow improve their health.

It’s not true.  And if you think it is you are being taken to the cleaners.  I’m sorry…but I don’t know any other way to put it.

It you truly want results…work with your body not against it.  Eat naturally as I’ve laid out above and become active.

And when I say active, I’m not talking about 1 to 2 hour workouts everyday.  Not only are they counterproductive but the human body is not designed for this kind of activity.

By activity I mean intermittent strenuous activity that is completely random.  For example, I will ‘workout’ anywhere from zero to 4 times a week.  The workouts are always different and varied.

In my opinion, a ‘schedule’ as you and I think of it is the enemy.

I intersperse these workouts with play-like activity with my kids and a fair amount of rest (one of the most overlooked aspects to health in our society).

So, there you go.  Rather than throwing your money away on low carb vitamins and fad diets now you have a blueprint for achieving ‘real’, everlasting results.  Without shell games or trickery.
