Low Cholesterol Oatmeal Pie Crust
73Cut back on those nasty trans fats and high cholesterol pie crusts!
Most standard pie crusts are made using lard or shortening, and these can be extremely high in fat, and cholesterol. We all enjoy a tasty dessert treat but not too many of us want to risk a major coronary adventure to have it. Unfortunately this is what most of us are forced to do. Well no more!
This tasty pie crust not only does not contain trans fats but it is actually good for you. Because oatmeal is a soluble fiber that binds with, and removes bad cholesterol from your body, this oatmeal pie crust actually reduces the amount of cholesterol in your body.
Just toss the ingredients in and crumble them together.
Oatmeal Pie Crust Recipe
Oatmeal Pie Crust:
1 1/4 cups of non-hydrogenated soft margarine
1/2 cup of lightly packed brown sugar
2 1/2 cups of your choice of brown or white flour
2 1/2 cups of quick oats
1 cup of old fashioned oats
Avoid the hard margarines. They may be easier to measure
out but they are also generally loaded with trans fats. Trans fats
are those nasty fats that clog up your arteries. Always check the nutritional list on the soft
margarine that you purchase to be sure that it contains zero trans fats.
When making the crust don't worry if you don't quite get your
measurements exact. If your dough is a little too sticky then simply add a few extra
quick oats in. If the dough is a little too dry, then add a little more margarine, and it will still turn out just fine.
Divide your mixture into 3 pie pans. Gently pat it into the shape of a crust.
Bake at 350 degrees
Bake it and you are done!
Bake your crusts in a 350 degree oven for about fifteen minutes or until pie shells are a nice golden color.Allow the shells to cool slightly before adding in your filling.
You can use this crust for virtually any type of pie. Fruit, lemon, pudding or a combination of pudding and fruit. You decide what type of pie it is that you want to create and then add this oatmeal crust to make it just that little extra healthy for the people that you love.
Bon appetit'
I made banana cream pie this time... But you decide what you want to put into your pie!

We do seem to be traveling in the same circles and I think my doctor would be very happy if I ate some of your pies. Getting old I guess.
