Low Fat Homemade Ice Cream Recipes - All The Taste Without The Fat

Low Fat Homemade Ice Cream Recipes make it possible to indulge without the guilt! What can be a more fun than tasty homemade ice cream made with fun dessert recipes?

So many people do not get all the benefit from their ice cream machines because they do not have enough recipes.

To help you I have two very tasty orange low fat homemade ice cream recipes for you. Try them; your family will love the tasty, light ice cream. These are ideal as a desert on a hot summer’s day.

Low Fat Homemade Ice Cream Recipes - Crimson Orange Juice Sherbet

The first of my low fat homemade ice cream recipes is a crimson orange juice sherbet made with blood orange juice. This is very tasty and the juice gives the sherbet it’s lovely color.

If you cannot find blood orange juice, any other orange juice will work. To be honest, this is one of those low fat homemade ice cream recipes where you can really experiment. It’s not expensive so you can afford a few “mishaps!”

Try substituting the blood orange juice with any orange juice of your choice, who knows! You might surprise yourself! Remember though, not to use raw pineapple juice as this will prevent the gelatin from setting! Cooked pineapple juice will work very well.

What You Need:

  • 1 1/2 C of sugar
  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
  • 3 1/4 C blood orange juice, divided
  • 1 1/2 C of buttermilk
  • 1 t vanilla

How to Make It:

  1. Place the sugar and gelatin into a saucepan and toss to combine.
  2. Pour 2 C of the blood orange juice into the pan.
  3. Place the pan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly for 4 minutes or until the sugar and gelatin have completely dissolved.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the remaining orange juice.
  5. Add the buttermilk and vanilla and blend all the ingredients together well.
  6. Pour the mixture into the freezer canister and freeze as directed by the ice cream maker's directions.
  7. Ripen for 4 hours.

Makes 16 servings

The blood orange juice is what gives this sherbet its crimson color.  If you don't like or can't find blood orange juice regular orange juice will work just as well.

Low Fat Homemade Ice Cream Recipes - Lemon Orange Banana Sorbet

The second of my low fat homemade ice cream recipes is a real refreshing sorbet for summer. Even though it does not contain any dairy, the banana in it gives it a real “rich” taste.

For someone looking for a refreshing yet rich ice cream, this one may be the one for you. This is one of my low fat homemade ice cream recipes that is very versatile and the proverbial sky is the limit.
