Finding Lower Back Pain Treatments

There is generally no respite from back pain, once you have an injury in this area; finding a back pain relief remedy is probably important to you and whilst there isn't a cure as yet, some treatments can help sufferers. Whilst prescription pain relief pills may in fact dull the pain to a manageable degree, they do not treat the root cause of the problem. Medication should be used sparingly and under the strict supervision of a medical professional.

Back pain is often caused by muscle strain and repeated strenuous exercises; spinal injury is one of the most common conditions around the world and even sitting incorrectly can create a long term problem. However, back pain is usually caused by a lifting accident or from lifting incorrectly and it is normally the lower back that suffers. However, a number of back pain relief treatments can be used without the need for drugs.

Tense muscles in the back can be eased just by gentle stretching; this provides relief and is simple to carry out. Reflexology, an ancient type of alternative medical treatment, uses the concept that areas of the body have corresponding regions on the feet that can benefit from massage; some people are now discovering its benefits as a back pain remedy. Often to compensate for our pain, the back muscles over compensate. Reflexology can help provide relief by improving the circulation which in turn relaxes these hard worked muscles.

The traditional Chinese medicine therapy acupuncture is now providing back pain relief with people suffering spinal problems in the West. Followers of traditional Chinese medicine are of the belief that every person has an inner energy force (chi) that reflects of our state of health, mental and physical. Acupuncture needles help to release trapped or sick energy (chi) when inserted at particular points in the body. Acupuncture can be used to treat almost all kinds of ailments including pain relief around the spine and studies made in acupuncture have provided results which are quite astounding.

Another ancient oriental discipline, Tai Chi is similar to many types of Yoga but the movements are much slower and deliberate. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. Natural back pain relief should really start with more frequent exercise; it not only helps to ensure the back is more flexible but can prevent spinal problems as well.

Exercise is often the key for relief for back pain, as it should considering that 68% of the time exercise eliminates back pain. There are many exercise programs are on the Internet that target lower back pain. Mike Stiveson (back pain specialist) has created a program called "The Guide To Back Pain Relief" which targets those muscles that often cause pain. This, like many other programs, are more affordable than pain medication which only covers the pain. Before trying any new treatment make sure to consult a medical professional to make sure there is not a more serious problem with your back.
