Today, eyelid surgery can revitalize the eyelids, get rid of look of you having tired eyes, eye hoods, the bags under eyes, wrinkles by the eyes and much more. The great thing about it is that doesn’t take that long to now do it and there aren’t many risks. Today, lower eyelid surgery is most commonly performed. Laser eyelid surgery can also be good as there is less bruising then normal treatment and the eyelids do not change shape after the treatment. Thinking that eye creams will get rid of the eye bags is absurd, it will not work and hence the eyelid surgery is necessary.

There have recently been advancements in lower eyelid surgery. This is that the laser which is currently used for the surgical operation doesn’t need to create a visible cut upon the lower eyelid. The technique named for this is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty – which means that the opening which was commonly created in lower eyelid surgery is not longer needed. What this technique does is that it makes the incision inside the eyelid instead of it being on the outside and thus, no scar can be seen on the skin and there is no visible change to the shape of the eyelid.

The term blepharoplasty is defined as "An operation which rectifies a problem found in the eyelid." It can be a lower eyelid or an upper eyelid. Even though it is essential to know about the basics of both, lower eyelid surgery creates a greater risk. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty usually performs the operation of getting rid of the bags under the eyelids and in turn makes the person look less tired. At first, a person must talk to a surgeon before taking any surgery as there may be certain implications. Here are some questions you should ask a professional surgeon during a consultation before treatment takes place.

Is my lower eyelid actually loose?

As lower eyelid surgery is done, it is necessary to check that the lower eyelid has been pulled down and is tight. If it isn’t then there is a chance of the person having dry eyes and the eyes will be exposed in the future which will cause great danger. This is because the eyelid may pull down too much after surgery has been done and create these implications. To check to see if the lower part of the eyelid is loose, the surgeon should pinch the lower eyelid and pull it outwards. If it takes a while for it to pull back to it’s normal position or takes a couple of blinks of the eye to come back, then the lower eyelid is loose. The good thing is if this is found out quickly, then another operation can be performed to do the cosmetic eyelid surgery. It is vital to ask this question as it can cause big implications if the operation goes wrong.

Will eyelid surgery blepharoplasty take away the bags and lines under the eyes?

Most people which have bags underneath the eyes have a pseudoherniation of fat. This shows that the fat which usually is found around the eyeball has slowly moved outside the bone on of the eye socket, and stays just underneath it, causing the bags. For some people, the fat has actually moved from the eye socket to even the cheeks, but this type of lower eyelid surgery will not fix this issue. Also, if the colour of your skin is a problem for you, you must ask the surgeon if the laser eyelid surgery will fix this. In most cases, the circles which appear under the eyes seem black only because of shadow created by the fat. But sometimes, the discolouration of the skin is due to pigmentation; this will require extra procedures to be able to get rid of it.

What type of incisions will the surgeon use?

There are many different ways that the surgeon can gain access to the lower eyelid. Some cuts can be created on the inside of the lower eyelid and therefore cannot be seen. But others are sometimes cut just below the line of the lash, and although it can be seen when surgery has just been finished, is nearly invisible when the skin has healed. You can ask the surgeon how they shall approach the lower eyelid surgery.
