For most of us the thought of luxury bedding is more like wishful thinking than a reality.  We see all these beautiful bedrooms and luxury bed linens on t.v. and we think "ahhh, wouldn't that be nice!" and then we go about the rest of our drab day knowing that when we crawl into bed it is into scratchy sheets and a dog chewed blanket.

Well I say no more!  Stand up and fight for your right to luxury bedding!  You are worth having satin sheets and down comforters...darn it, you are worth it!  Are Egyptian cotton sheets your thing?  Well go out there and grab some, don't be shy!  Stand up and say "I am not going to take these scratchy sheets anymore!".  Go ahead...I promise it feels wonderful.

Bedding is a necessity that most of us take for granted.  We think that as long as it is functional then there is no need to spend a fortune on it, but what if you didn't have to spend a fortune on it or if you finally realize you are worth a little extra money?  You should make the leap to luxury bedding.

What is Luxury Bedding?

Now that is a good question because it is up to interpretation. Luxury bedding might mean silk sheets and eider down comforters to one person and to the next it might mean 400 thread count cotton sheets with nice duvet covers over a mid range down comforter. Maybe black satin sheets is your thing along with a satin comforter. Whatever your definition, there is something out there to suit your tastes. Bedding is a highly personal choice and you should not feel pressured into someone else's idea of luxury bedding. You should take your time and find what is perfect for your comfort and your bedroom design.

Below are a few examples of what most people consider luxury bedding.

Egyptian Cotton Sheets

You hear so much about Egyptian sheets, but I bet they have been elusive to most of you and you have never actually slept between a pair.  I am here to tell you first hand that to me, Egyptian cotton sheets are the ultimate in luxury bedding.  Satin and high thread count sheets are nice, don't get me wrong, but a pair of mid to high thread count Egyptian sheets are the ultimate.  They are so soft and comfy, it is hard to put onto words.

These sheets are considered the highest quality cotton sheets available.  The reason that Egyptian sheets are so renowned is because the staple of the cotton is much longer than your standard cotton sheets and the longer the staple, the softer the sheet.  The only place in the world to achieve this long staple is along the banks of the Nile river.  When the river recedes it leaves a ground fertilized in such a way that the cotton grows special there.  It is literally grown along the banks of the Nile!  This reasoning is also why Egyptian cotton sheets are so much more expensive and in that case elusive to most of us.  They are special in their own right and deserve to be champions of luxury bedding.

Eider Down Comforters

Another staple of luxury bedding is the down comforter, but specifically the eider down comforter.  Eider down is considered the softest and warmest down there is.  This down comes from the Eider down comes from the Eider Duck, a wild sea duck that typically makes its home along the coast of Iceland.  Many of these luxury down comforters come from sanctuaries that have been developed for them by farmers in Iceland.  The female duck plucks her down to insulate her eggs and once the eggs are hatched and the ducks have left the nest, then the down is harvested.  These farmers provide a safe place for the eider duck to nest and these ducks are attracted to this safe area where food is provided and poachers are kept at bay.

You can see what a pain staking process collecting the down from wild eider ducks would be, hence the prices for one of these luxury down comforters.  Prices range from $2,500 for a twin size to upwards of $7,000 for a king size.  If you do your homework, you might be able to score one of these comforters to add to your own luxury bedding for a reasonable price!

Luxury Baby Bedding and Toddler Bedding

I know, I thought the same thing when researching this article, but then again I am not all that surprised. If you have done any shopping recently for a baby you will have noted that the prices can be outrageous, especially for the bedding. Luxury bedding does exist for the tiny tots, but it is usually in the form of organic materials and designer names than in the form of silk sheets.

Today many manufacturers of baby bedding have been switching to organic cotton to produce their luxury bedding. Organic anything comes with a higher price tag, but can be well worth the cost for the environment.

The beauty of some of these designer baby bedding is amazing and so is the price tag. Top of the line luxury bedding for the nursery can easily run you $500 or more and the designs are so beautiful I want them for my own room. I have a hard time parting with $500 for a baby that is going to just vomit all over their luxury bedding, but if you have got it then go for it! You can find great deals online for baby bedding as well as any of the other luxury bedding discussed in this article.

Also check your local retailers for some awesome deals, you just have to keep one eye open for them!

Choosing your Luxury Baby Bedding

Below is some instruction on choosing your baby bedding.  I found this to be a more daunting task than choosing my own luxury bedding.  Hope this helps you and your decision making!

Yeah, I like my sheets at 300 count of better. Luxury bedchothes are absolutely worth it. It does make a difference, and it feels like I am doing something nice for myself.

High thread count sheets can make a worn out bed feel better. I have a favorite set of 600 thread count sheets that I treated myself to as a birthday present a few years ago. I wash them several times a week and put them right back on the bed. Someday soon I am going to treat myself to another set. We deserve the luxury.
