MALE MARINES STRICKEN WITH BREAST CANCER AT CAMP LEJUENE NC
64It's very disturbing to hear reports that some of the Marines have developed breast cancer. These marines were stationed at the Camp Lejuene Marine Corp., at NC during the 1980's. The source seems to have been discovered in the drinking water. It has been said that some of the poison in the water came from the runoff of solvents from a nearby cleaning facility. A number of these men have had breast removal surgery and wanted the VA (Veterans Administration) to help them with their medical expenses.
The men who tried to get help and treatment from the VA were turned down. The reason being that they did not get the cancer from drinking the water at the camp base, even after tests were taken and determined to be contaminated. One of the soldiers, who was diagnosed with the cancer in 1998, sixteen (16) years after serving at the base said that his VA representative told him that it's not the the VA's problem, it's the Marine Corp's problem. And apparently the others were told there was no link between their disease and the base, so therefore, they can't help them or pay for their treatment, and that the Marine Corp is responsible for their disease as well. Some have cases pending at the time of this report.
No one, especially US service men and women who have given (and some are still giving) so much of themselves protecting our country should be allowed to suffer or be denied treatment so matter where they got the cancer from. How can that be? We the citizens should support our troops and veterans ( no matter what our position is about the wars).
Contact your Congress Representative about the plight of these servicemen and express your care, concern and discontentment for this action. We, the people (and our Government) owe it to these brave soldiers to take care of them during their service currently, as well as those who happen to be returned after their service as veterans, to society and their families, after multiple tours.
Please, everyone who can, pass the message on to your family and friends to make sure Congress do the right thing and help all the service men and women, and their families.
