Every MBBS student has to pass from the worst patch of life, which is first year. The term first year is self explanatory. It is bad enough to call them fools. I think some sympathetic words are deserved by them.

They are still trying to get the feeling that PMC will be their home for the next half decade or so. They are trying to mingle their ways into the crowd and into the downing fraction of the society called "Doctors".

After three or four sub stages, the first stage, the first physiology test and the first short noticed Biochemistry test, one begins to settle in and enjoys oneself. Actually one takes a deep breath and says thanks God; thank you for the privilege of developing bed sores due to sitting in one place for so long time trying to learn ‘his bone'. I mean it's a wonderful life.

Before losing myself and going completely off-track, I want to throw light on some hurdles that have to be crossed by innocent first year students.

SUB-STAGES / STAGES:

Sub stages viva is the most common method of torturing newly born first year students. Success doesn't depend upon how much you know. But the one and the only decisive factor is the examiner before which you are going to appear. Amazingly, you can predict your result without getting half from Amil Baba.

Stage is three day remand of medical students. And all of them confer after stage that getting admission in Medical College was greatest mistake. Their cornier spotting is the most difficult hurdle in this three day torture. Perhaps it is difficult hurdle in this three day torture. Perhaps it is difficult for those who know a bit about Anatomy. But for students, like me, who are out of Anatomy, this is very exciting even. I think it is modified form of "musical chair" the "bell table". You are given five minutes to identify twenty five parts of Harem of Egyptian Mummies.

DISSECTION HALL "DH":

This is dim light room with more light switches than actual tube lights. This is no territory for faint hearted, because this is Body Room. Many dead bodies are lying to remind you of the day after tomorrow. Sometimes, it may happen that your demonstrator comes to give you lesson; otherwise this is best place to recreate yourself. You are supposed to be in DH for first and last fifteen minutes i.e. for attendance and re-attendance. The middle one & half hour is reserved for wandering about in corridor and canteen. But if doors get closed while you are still outside, then to be sure, you will have a pleasant next day.

PHYSIOLOGY PRACTICAL / TUTORIALS

Physiology Practical is wrong term because you have nothing to do practically because you have nothing to do practically. Only take down notes every week and at the end of year, you will have enough material to publish a mini-book.

Physiology Tutorials are most dangerous weapons in physiology department. A lecture of two hours can shatter your personality. But after repetitive attacks, you can undergo phenomenon of habituation.

BIOCHEMISTRY PRACTICLAS / TUTORIALS:

Biochemistry practical is the only colorful event in life of first year students. They can make themselves happy by seeing a lot of colors in test tubes. Tutorials are meant to say hello, hi to biochemistry but they can get lethal in presence of some hardworking teacher but overall biochemistry department has some love for newly born medical students.

LECTURE HALLS:

These are basically large classrooms. They front rows are occupied by those mad students who come in lecture hall in time. Actually they are so much miserable people that they did not feel the pain of attending the whole lecture. Majority of students enter when doors are just going to be closed. The girls take down lecture notes. While half of the bays (except mad students) use to play games on mobile while the other half note the girls, noting the lecture. Some girls are similar to boy in their behavior they get supply similar to boys.

CANTEEN:

This is the place where most of the personal matters are discussed. Most people come to college for canteen only.

PROFESSIONAL EXAM:

This is something to damage the nerves of first year students. This is perhaps an attempt to make them so strong mentally that they should not feel any pain in rest of life. This is a treatment; of course, of about two months in which person becomes so humble that he can be ruled over by anyone.

SUPPLY

This is a Divine gift that solidifies you hereafter shattering it once. A supply holder becomes so brave that he never cares for the consequences in his latter life. In this duration of forty days, he prays for his teachers five times a day. He really has a chance to visualize the actual behavior of his friends. And if someone gets supply not due to his academic record but due to some other person, he will surely dedicate the all charms of life to that person.

In short, life in first year is full of tension, a little bit of joy, a lot of threats and a continuous hard work. In the end, I wish all the first students, a brilliant success, in their professional exams.
