How to Evaluate An MLM Company

You will hear many opinions on this topic, but coming from a reasonably analytical mind, I hope the following will make sense for you. Most people who fail in network marketing have unreasonable expectations and have bought into the fast money hype so often used in presentations. When someone describes a new mlm company by how incredible its compensation plan is, I stop them immediately and ask what is the product or service that is being sold? If they dance around that question, I bid them a quick farewell. Chasing the fast money is always very short term thinking. The only chance a company has of long term success is if they can provide a product or service that represents real value to its customers and distributors. There are of course additional important factors to consider, but product is the most important.

I'm sure you will have more, but here are my top 10 questions:

1. What is the product or service being sold?

2. Does it represent value to the consumer?

3. How much does it cost to join the company?

4. How much is the monthly requirement?

5. What type of compensation plan is used?

6. What marketing tools are provided?

7. What training and support are provided?

8. Does the company have a track record or is it a new start-up?

9. What is it about the company or its product that sets it apart from the competition?

10. Can the average person make money?

Do Your Homework

Before you even consider joining an MLM company or any other type of business, you need to do your homework. Is there a niche market or area in which you have a particular interest or expertise? You will always do better with a product or service with which you an relate or enjoy. Is there good market timing? Who is your competition? The questions above are really just to help you start the process.

I think question #1 is key in any type of MLM scheme or downline program.  Without the product than what is the company doing in business?  Most of the time they will have a product with different ingredients but will cost two or three times more than similiar products.  They should first find a product they can sell at a reasonable price and than make the downlines the secondary income provider through the company, when it comes down to recruiting downlines as the primary source of income, than your playing on the line of pyramid schemes...be careful!

There is a reason that product was listed as question #1. I totally agree. Without a valid product or service that represents value to the ultimate customer, you are in a very short term relationship with any company.

To comment on Hub Masters comment. Pyramids are illegal in the MLM industry - they have been for many years.

It doesn't matter what type of product it is that you're selling. You can sell a sub-par product with great marketing than you can selling a great product with sub-par marketing.
