Evaluating The Future For The Top 3 MMORPGs Of 2008

There are 14 million players enrolled to their respective game (and one of them has yet to be published as of this writing), the 3 most popular massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) in the market today have quickly cornered a significant percentage of the gaming industry. Consisting of earnings totaling billions of dollars per annum, these 3 most popular MMORPGs - namely Activision-Blizzard's World of Warcraft, Funcom's Age of Conan: The Hyborian Adventures, and EA Games' upcoming Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - have trapped many people in their believable worlds, and admittedly, have ruined many lives by making people forget that there is a real world out there.

What does the future hold for each of these online RPGs?

1. World of Warcraft. With the second expansion expected by November of 2008, one which bears the title Wrath of the Lich King, expect WoW (as it is fondly called) to expand its already huge number of subscribers by at least 25% of its current number. Already boasting of 12 million gamers all over the planet, World of Warcraft is not only the biggest MMORPG in the planet, it is also the highest selling game on earth.

2. Age of Conan: The Hyborian Adventures. Released in May of 2008, Age of Conan has quickly gained a big subscriber base that will only get bigger in the months to come. Following the heels of the highly successful Grand Theft Auto IV, Age of Conan quickly dislodged the former at the top of the chartsin the bestsellers chart|in the list of the hottest selling games} soon after it was made available to the publuc. With regular downloadable content (DLC) promised, this online RPG is primed to continue its amazing showing in the coming months. Its player vs. player (PVP) orientation has made Age of Conan a certified hit among hardcore gamers and action game enthusiasts.

3. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Borrowed from the popular series of tabletop games in Europe and other parts of the world, Warhammer Online another online game that focuses on PVP combat. People have been waiting for this game since 2004, when it was first announced. And now, it will finally be released. Gaming experts are expecting this to be more of a blockbuster than the previously discussed Age of Conan online RPG, considering the fact that people have been waiting for this game for a several years now. Warhammer Online is expected to provide the first real competition to World of Warcraft's firm grasp on the MMORPG industry.
