MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH CHOCOLATE
61
It All Started A Long Time Ago......
I remember the first time I felt the taste on my tongue and I couldn't even speak yet! I must of gurgled in a very excited way with a giggle or two mixed in. Then I must of yelled at my mother or father in a very loud way with a word that resembled something like MOOORRRRRRRR......!!
This was the beginning of my "Love Affair" with Chocolate. It started slowly with a few toddler steps to the kitchen to sneak a lick or two out of a cake bowl filled with batter. It then progressed to waiting for the cupcakes to finish cooking and then it was time for the chocolate frosting to make its appearance. Yea! Let us celebrate this yummy mix of sugar with sugar with lots of extra sugar and then "lick, lick, lick!" Unfortunately this love for chocolate then turned into an obsession which then progressed to a bit " of too much chocolate!" It started with the batter and then went on to a race to the corner shop for candy bars or the grocery store for the candy cases where they weigh how much you have. When I didn't have the money I took it as "Well, this candy must be free," so I took a few and put it in my pockets. Luckily I was young enough that the Manager let me off lightly.
I have pictures of myself eating lots of chocolate in all different scenarios. Sneaking a few chocolates at a birthday party when I was five, the chocolate mousse in front of me on a highschool date, the chocolate cake at my wedding and many other memories where the "Love of my Mouth" accompanied me. Oh yes, and let's not forget all of the chocolate candy boxes from my romantic boyfriends for Valentines Day! Once a friend sent me chocolate that had something in it that was supposed to change my mood and I eagerly chomped it down to see if anything would happen and something did happen! I wanted more and more and more CHOCOLATE!
At one time in my life I thought of starting a chocolate business, but after being in Europe and walking down a market isle that had a thousand different candy bars in it, I just "gave up." I wondered if I actually made a certain sort of chocolate if I would not love it as much. I mean, who can beat a Cadbury Bar?! Especially the one's that are as big as a shoe! Not sure about the French companies, but I will tell you everything they made was "mouth watering."
I tried to think of every time I thought of chocolate or made a choice to have "something chocolate." Almost every time I order a desert, I always choose something with chocolate in it. So, this means I have consumed tons and tons of chocolate in a lifetime and the problem is that I always want more! They say that consuming chocolate helps you feel "loved" because it stimulates the emission of endorphins. It is also a stimulant, euphorisant, and anti-depressor. Cool. Bring it on! Sounds great!
Considering all of the ingredients in it, chocolate has nutritional qualities and is considered a "high energy" food in small doses. Athletes are among those who eat chocolate regularly since it brings on energy quickly. All of the ingredients in chocolate when taken in small doses is beneficial to you. Four of the substances in chocolate are theobromine, caffeine, phenylethlamine and serotoni.
My favorite chocolate treats are: Chocolate Honeycomb, Chocolate Mousse, Cadbury Bars with Nuts in it, Chocolate Ice Cream with chocolate chunks in it, Chocolate Fudge and special Chocolate Coffee Drinks or Blended milkshakes! Did I make your mouth water yet?
Come on, go treat yourself!
