Not all safety products are created equal.

At Mace Safety, our job is to educate you to the best solutions available for self defense from robbery and assault. Even though we sell them all, we want you to have the right tools. We know these all from personal experience as we have used them all on ourselves. As experts in self defense technology, we believe you need to understand exactly what to expect from your defense tools. Many websites show you their version of the product in action, as we will. But we want you to know that we only demonstrate real scenarios of the actual product in use. We also will provide you with the science behind how these tools work. We then stack rank them in order of preference as a user defending him or herself would see them. Below are our findings:

The highest ranking product we sell is the Air Taser. It works, period. It is our highest recommendation for safety as it complete stops an attacker while keeping them 15 feet from you. We also like the fact that you can zap your attacker, throw down the taser and run. Taser will replace your unit with a valid police incident report! These devices provide 30 seconds to one minute for you to make your escape. The distance and immediate effectiveness earn them our highest praise. The second highest ranking is a mace / pepper spray blend. These are the sprays carried by Police Departments world wide. These will keep attackers some six to twelve feet from you. These will provide a 15 to 30 minute disability window for you to escape the attacker, though it may take five seconds for the attacker to respond to them. The distance and duration of effect of these products earn them our second highest praise, as they are highly effective. Our third highest ranking is the 18% Wild Fire pepper spray defense. At 3 million scovill heat units, this stuff is HOT, and will keep attackers 6 to 12 feet from you. These will provide a 10 to 15 minute disability window for the attacker escape. It is hot enough that even if someone is used to pepper sprays, they will still retreat, though it may take five seconds to respond.

Our forth highest ranking would be a traditional or standard stun gun. It comes in forth as it requires one on one contact, though they are efficient and will help to keep you safe. Recovery from these devices usually lasts only seconds, but they will all a women to break free from a attacker holding her. If someone has a grip on you, this applied to the head, neck, torso or groin will make them release. In most cases they won't want to come back for more. These units get good marks for effectiveness, but the up close contact required brings them in fourth on our ranking. Our fifth choice is a Kubaton / Pepper Spray, which is a pressure point device you keep on your key ring and has a small bottle of pepper spray in it.. They are highly effective, but you only have two or three blasts of the spray, and the attacker would need to be within four feet or so. If the spray fails, you then hold the baton and beat the attacker with the keys.

Our sixth choice is the kubaton without pepper spray. They work, though once again require one on one contact.

We do not rate our steel batons, throwing stars or other devices that may cause permanent injuries.

Please note that these stack rankings change with you environment. An example as you can not keep a pepper spray with you on an airline, while most times they will allow the small kubaton to pass through. Local laws also effect this, and we address that in the product information itself.

Actor Compares Spray, Stun Gun and Taser For Tests

A popular actor from a TV series takes doing a little research. He first sprays himself with pepper spray. Next he is using a stun gun on himself. The third is a police Taser. His response is about the same as my personal response was. Recovered from pepper spray in about 20 minutes, a stun gun in about 20 seconds, and a taser in about a minute.
