It's got to be my favorite show on television. Actually, I don't watch any other program currently, so it definitely has to be. Just the smoothness of the production, excellent storytelling, and that clean, sexy, mid century modern style.

Then there's the clothes.

From Betty Draper's stay at home trophy wife, to office primo secretary and sexpot Joan Holloway to demure Brooklyn-born Peggy Olson, a first generation career woman, to other sundry ladies from the steno pool, the graphic arts department, or even the occasional fling stewardess from Don Draper's portfolio, the "Mad" women have crazy style.

Fashion editors, magazine writers, and clothing designers themselves have been inspired by the hot looks from the show, reminiscing about the 50's and 60's, which also is looking very crisp, modern, and right now. Here are tips on how to achieve your favorite character's style:

How to for a Sexy Joan Look:

1. Joan is all about the approach, and even more about the return. She looks "good walking in; look even better walking out," according to the NY Daily News fashion pages. Pick curve-hugging silhouettes and bright colors -- fitted blouses and slim sweaters top tight pencil skirts. All of this is designed to show off assets. This is a look where curves count.

2. It's all about achieving an hourglass shape. If that's not naturally you, wearing Spanx under everything helps to smooth, shape and create curves under clothes.

3. She's sexy, but she's about mystery, too. Emphasize the waist and curves-- belted sheath dresses and trimly fitted blouses tucked in -- but skirts are kept knee-length, and no cleavage for the office. Ever. She's sexy, but professional at the same time.

The Upscale Trophy Wife Betty Look:

1. At times a bit poufy and 'over' prettified. At her best, gracefully classic and very Grace Kelley, 1950s-style, with fitted sweaters, classic blazers and riding wear, great and perfectly coifed hair and make up.

2. Comfortable and casual doesn't mean frumpy for Betty, ever. Her twin-set combinations and slacks are topped off with elegant earring and necklace sets, sometimes of classic pearls, of course.

3. Keep it together. Her marriage might be falling apart, but she always looks pulled together and cool, her nails are shaped, her hair soft but 'done' and her clothes band-box perfect.

Pioneering Career Gal Peggy Look:

1. Peggy's been undergoing a transition. From steno pool Brooklyn waif to nascent high powered advertising account executive. She's a girl in a man's world and her clothes reflect that. Her dresses are tailored classic silhouettes -- prominent shoulders and buttoned up, to reflect her professionalism.

2. Eyes on the bottom line. The REAL bottom line, ;) And please look above the neck! Her clothes are conservative, even a little frumpy. And that's not a bad thing. Doing what your momma or the gals from the steno pool tell you to do rarely achieves what you want from life.

3. Fashionistas who watch the show predict Olson's dresses to get a little tighter, her heels a touch higher and her hair a little shorter. With her career on the rise, all her prospects will rise.

A Midge "The Mistress," Look:

1. Midge, Draper's first mistress, only lasted a season, but her character was nothing short on style, and probably was one of the coolest of ladies. A graphic designer and painter, she had her own career, and a man 'when she wanted.' Or, something like that, anyway. Her look echoed her outlook. Long page boy wavy hair, unstructured blouses with sleek pencil skirts and heels.

2. Think best of a few different worlds, and a native hip. Dark lipstick, smooth and sleek hair, just a little tousled. Not short on a bit of attitude, either.

3. Don't forget the underwear! In the first season, she appeared en deshabille with Draper quite often. Check out Victoria's Secret for some lacy creations that make you feel sexy on the inside as well as on the outside.

Hey I love your new photo! I love the clothes on Mad Men too. It's kind of a slicker version of what it really was like back then. I was thinking that the other day. BIll brought home this book from B&N with all these clips of Bettie Page and other pin up from that era, and it brought back memories of how there was this kind of, I don't know, dirtiness and odor to that whole era. I'm serious. You look at garters and girdles and the real nylon hose and you can almost smell the Ambush cologne and the crotch sweat. It's not a BAD thing, but it's an element totally missing from the Mad Men women. Still, they ARE luscious! Great hub, thanks!

Hi, Pam. Lol. Yeah, you don't think about those girdles and nylon hose. I do remember my mother wearing those kinda funny conical bras...and it always took her a while to catch up fashion-wise with everyone else, lol. eeek. Embarrassing for her daughters. And then I remember, too, that they would only wash there hair once a week...and rollers with head scarves. Those WERE slightly bad things. Yeah! Let's stick with ambiance of Mad Men. :) And, thanks.
