Since its founding in 1987, Co-CEO's Joel Carlins and James Loewenberg have led Magellan into recognition as one of Chicago's most prolific developers, with more than 12,000 residential units in Chicago. In addition to residential experience, Magellan's portfolio also includes commercial, retail, park and public service and philanthropic development experience. Magellan reintroduced residential living to the central business district, revitalized the River North and Gold Coast neighborhood and helped anchor the growth of the New East Side.

Ranking as one of the top developers nationally and locally, Magellan supplements its development activity with a host of in-house professional services including architecture, property management, law, brokerage, sales and marketing, public relations, construction and project management, commercial real estate, as well as consulting services.

Lakeshore East is a venture of Magellan Development Group LLC, a recently formed corporate partnership culminating a long-term collaboration between Magellan Development Group and NNP Residential & Development, two of Chicago's most accomplished and respected real estate organizations.

Lakeshore East, a $4 billion lifestyle center perceived to be the largest parcel of downtown land under development in any major U.S. city. Spanning 28 acres, this award-winning master-planned village in the heart of the city will include 4,950 residences, 2.2 million square feet of gross commercial space, 1,500 hotel rooms, 770,000 square feet of retail space and a planned elementary school surrounding a magnificent six-acre botanical park.

Joel Carlins and James Loewenberg are co-chief executive officers of Magellan Development Group; David Carlins is president. Magellan will continue to steer development activity, while the NNP Residential division led by Robin Loewenberg Berger as president, will focus on property management and marketing services. All Magellan and NNP Residential affiliates, including Loewenberg Architects LLC, established in 1919, will continue to operate autonomously.

Together, the two companies developed award-winning luxury rental communities including The Tides at Lakeshore East, The Shoreham at Lakeshore East, Grand Plaza, The Park Millennium, One Superior Place and Dearborn Place. Condominium developments at Lakeshore East include Aqua, The Parkhomes, The Chandler, 340 on the Park, The Regatta and The Lancaster. In addition, the two organizations independently developed hotels, retail, office and medical facilities throughout the United States.
