Maine Coon Cat-Maine Coon Distinct Quality

"What Make A Maine Coon A Maine Coone"

The most important features of a maine coon cat are their head, body shape, and the texture and 'shag' of the cat coat. Their heads are slightly longer than other their other counter part cats because it is wider.

Also the heads have a gently concave profile with very high cheekbones and ears that are quite large, wide at the base, moderately pointed, and well tufted inside.

Maine Coone Cats develop slowly and usually don't reach their full size until they are about 3 to 5 years old. Lynx-like tufting on the top of the ears is always a desirable trai that you want to find in a maine coon cat.

Their neck should be medium to long with a long torso and a broad chest. Their tails should be at least as long as their torsos. Their most distinctive features is their eyes because it is very expressive, round and large and set at a slightly oblique angle. A perfectly breeded maine coon should represnent the appearance of a long, well-balanced, rectangular cat.

Maine Coon-The Cat That Is Quite Unique

Though Maine Coons loves to be around people that does not make them overly-dependent upon humans. They will not constanly demand attention but would prefer to just have fun with their owners. They are a fun loving kind of cat. They just want to hang around and see what their owners are doing and see how they can help in whatever the project is.

Maine Coons cats are not known as "lap cat" but there are some that differ from that generalization they are a few that would be considered lap cat. But though they are not lap cat they desire to be in your presence-they will want to occupy the chair next to you, they will follow you from room to room.

And if you ever close a door on a maine coon they will wait outside the closed door until you re-emerge. They are really very people person cats. They want to be your pal, best friend, buddy and welcome any time spent wit you as special.

Falling In Love With A Maine Coon Kitten

You can understand why their owners love them so much because they are so easy to fall in love with. Their temperment makes them very easy-going and loving, because they just want to be involved in everythig around them.

The males have a greater tendency to be more of a playful always clowning. While their female counter-part tends to be more royal, dignity and regal yet both male and female are playful and energetic.

Maine Coons are so easy going that they usually get along with both dogs and children which is quite different from other cats who enjoy chasing objects on the ground and grasping them in their large paws. Maine coons love to play throw and catch with their owners. They enjoy just being playful and fun loving.

Maine Coon Special Care

As with any other cat, maine coons will have issues that are common in one breed but not common in any breed. All cats have genetic strengths and weakeness and certain gentic health disorder might be more or less of a problem. You might notice that some breeds of cat have a high tendency towards gum disease, while other have a tendency towards heart disease or liver disease.

The genetic problems usually only affect a small minority of the cat breed as a whole. But because this can be controlled with careful screening, a reputable breeder can track these kinds of problems with breeding stock.

This is very important when considering the kittens that they will produce. Getting familiar with a responsible and knowledgeable breeder that will explain these health issues will encourage high quality breeding.

The main health issues that is common in maine coon are hip dysplasia. This can sometimes cause lameness in a very severely affected cat. Cardiomyopathy is another aligment that is common to maine coons this can cause problems ranging from a minor heart murmur to severe heart troubles.

A prospective breeder will be able to discuss these issue with you and inform you of any disease that might be common in their stock or the kittens that their main coons have producted. The main coon breeder should give you an update as to how many screening they are doing and why they are necessary.

But a good relationship with your maine coon veterinarina will eliminate these issues as you will be able to discuss health issudes and the proper care for your cat.
