For people with diabetes the key to successfully controlling their disease is by maintaining their blood sugar at a normal level. Without properly controlling their blood glucose levels, the diabetes patients risk themselves with various disorders and complications that commonly caused by the high sugar levels on the blood. If this condition is left for a long period of time without any treatments, diabetes will become a really life threatening illness. We need to make sure our blood sugar levels are always at the normal range, it is between 4.5 - 5.5 mg/dl.
One of the ways we can take to lower blood sugar levels and keep it in normal level is by eating smaller meals several times a day then eating large meals fewer times. It will help our body system not to work too hard to break down the sugars come with the foods and send it to our vital organs. Try to break down your eating habits. If you used to eat three times a day, change it to five or six smaller meals throughout the day. Don’t forget to combine it with drinking a good amount of water. It will help our entire body system to transform the food into nutrients.
Controlling our blood sugar in a healthy level is a very crucial factor in our lives especially for anyone that is diagnosed to have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes is a condition when your blood sugar levels are higher than the normal levels but it is still in lower levels then the diabetics. If you find or are diagnosed with pre-diabetes, it means that it is the time for you to start taking control of your body and start to change your lifestyle. It could be consuming lower high sugar foods and drinks, and also start to spend some of your time to do your exercises.
If you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, besides changing your eating habit by eating more meals throughout the day, it is also very important for you to start looking at your daily diet. Make sure you consume plenty of high fiber foods in your diet since it will help you controlling your blood sugar in a healthy level. Some researches show that high fiber foods intake can also lower the risk of heart disease. At the same time high fiber diet will also help you feel fuller after eating. It means you will also be able to reduce your overweight, something that usually found on people with diabetes. You can easily find high fiber foods from vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and whole grains.
If you are diagnosed with diabetes or on pre-diabetes condition, forget those junk foods you always consume before. You also have to avoid drinking those soft drinks that usually have high sugar and calories. Currently there are few soft drinks with zero sugar in case you can’t really avoid them. Start to do some short and simple exercises to maintain your fitness.
Diabetes can be a really life threatening however with proper diet and changes on your lifestyle you can fight it and live a healthy life for long time. Don’t give up.
