We all enjoy getting extra money and your hubpages can be a nice little earner to help enable you to afford some of the extra luxuries in life.

One of the most important factors deciding how much extra money you make from hubpages is your visitor numbers or traffic numbers. The plain fact is that without visitors to your hubs you won't make any money.

Getting just a few visitors each day will generate a little money sometimes but getting a lot more visitors will almost certainly increase your income since the increase in income tends to relate to an increase in visitors to your hubs.

To boost your visitor numbers you need to spread the word and tell the world about your hubpages. Once again numbers count and you are likely to get more visitors by having more places around the web linking back to your hubs and your profile page.

The links are known as backlinks and lots of backlinks should help boost your visitor numbers and income by sending traffic to your hubs directly. In addition to direct traffic having lots of backlinks should encourage Google and other search engines to rate your hubs higher which in turn should lead to better search engine rankings and more visitors.

There are several recognised ways of boosting your backlink numbers.

1) Commenting on Blogs. When visiting blogs you are usually invited to leave comments on the articles and blog entries you read. When you leave comments you can usually include a link back to whichever website or hubpage you like. If the comment is accepted the link may bring other readers of the blog to your hub as well as boosting your backlink ratings with the search engines.It can be time consuming but regular use should boost your results.

2) Write articles and publish on Article Directories: If you managed to write a hubpage you can surely manage to write a few articles to publish elsewhere about the same subject. You can write articles about anything you like and publish them on article directories but if you want to promote your hubpages you would do best to write something on the same subject as your hubpage and publish it on an article directory like ezinearticles.com. You are usually allowed to add a link or two at the end of your article that can link back to your website or hubpage to allow people who enjoyed your article to read more of your writing. This can be time consuming but it can be very effective for getting backlinks to your hubpages and helping the search engines find your page and rank it well.

There is software available that will publish the same article to many different article publishing sites and whilst this is duplicate content and not quite as good as unique articles it can still generate useful backlinks and consequently benefit your hubpages.

3) Promote Your Rss Feed To RSS Agregating Websites: The RSS feed of your hubpages can be registered with many RSS feed agregating websites who list thousands of websites and update those lists when a website is updated. In the case of hubpages the rss feed is for your profile and once your feed is registered with one of the rss aggregating websites it will automatically update when you add more hubs to your account. This has proved to be a very effective way of promoting websites and hubpages and for many people this is the main technique they use for promotion. Time consuming but very powerful and effective.

4) Promote your hubpages by registering with Website Directories: There are probably thousands of website directories that list various websites, sometimes for free and sometimes for a small annual fee. This can be a good way to get your website or hubpage more widely known about though I suspect the main benefit comes from helping the search engines find your pages and see plenty of backlinks making your hubs and websites seem more important. The fact that people are prepared to pay to register their sites with these directories suggests that the links can be valuable so probably worthwhile doing this as part of a broad hub page promotion plan.

We all use tags on our hubpages but for most of us it is a pretty hit or miss procedure. Most of us go on a gut feeling as to what tags are best to use. Sometimes gut feelings are right but often they are not.

You can carry out all these promotion techniques yourself at no cost but they are all reasonably time consuming and there are never enough hours in the day.

You can find many services that will do a lot of the promotion work for you in return for a monthly fee. They do make life a lot easier but the returns need to be enough to pay those regular monthly fees.

You can use software to lighten the load and speed up the process. A one off payment for the software enables you to promote as many hubs as you like and this is my preferred option. I have used these programs myself with good results.

RSSbot is my favorite tool and makes the process of registering your hubs profile with many RSS aggregators a whole lot simpler and quicker than having to go to each in turn. If you have several hubpages accounts and/or lots of websites this is a huge time saver and very effective.
